Survey Monkey Results

The age group of this survey is perhaps not particularly useful towards my survey as the results are purely based off of who completed my survey. That being said it does fit my target audience as they are between the age of 16-35 as the Hip-Hop genre was very popular in the 80s and 90s and so those who were 16 back then would now fit into an older demographic.

As you can see 90% of the people who answer the survey are male. This coincides with the later question ‘Would you consider purchasing a subscription to a monthly magazine?’ in which 90% of males said that they would at least possibly consider purchasing a monthly subscription to a magazine, therefore meaning that my magazine should be predominantly targeted at a male audience whilst still being appealing to females.

Survey Monkey Results

My survey result for the question ‘How much money would you happily spend on a magazine?’ highlights that the majority of people (56%) would not spend any more than three pounds on a magazine and therefore my magazine should not be priced higher than three pounds.

Survey Monkey Results

This information is rather irrelevant towards my research as it is purely based on the individuals that responded to the survey. My primary target audience is african-american males yet as previously specified it is in no way specific to this audience, as there are many other ethnic influences within the Hip-Hop genre.

Survey Monkey Results

These results, to little surprise, revealed that the participants of my survey believed the main image to be the most important feature of a Hip-Hop magazine cover. This is due to the fact that with Hip-Hop music, as with the vast majority of music, the artists tend to be the most influential factor of the genre and therefore it is obvious that the reader is immediately drawn to the main image as it is of a Hip-Hop artist which exhibits Richard Dyer’s ‘star appeal’ in that on the front cover the largest feature is often the main image and this image is of a poplar artist which attracts Hip-Hop fans.

Survey Monkey ResultsThese results as to the celebrities which my participants ‘would like to see in a Hip-Hop magazine’ highlight that there is a wide variety of artists which they wish to feature in a Hip-Hop magazine which reveals that there is much diversity within the Hip-Hop genre with regards to the fans as there is an array of different artists with different takes on the Hip-Hop genre and from this the diversity occurs within the genre as the fans are attracted by a number of artists. The effects on my magazine which this will have is that in order to attract the largest possible audience I must ensure that the magazine features a multitude of Hip-Hop artists. The preferred artist amongst participants of survey appears to be ‘Asap Rocky’ which indicates that I should feature this artist in my magazine as doing so could result in an increased popularity in my magazine.

Survey Monkey ResultsThis question of color scheme that the participants in the survey would ‘like to see in the magazine’ highlights that the most popular color scheme is red and black. Although this may not be my selected color scheme it is rather helpful towards discovering popular colors amongst possible consumers of my magazine. With respect to the contribution which this will have towards my magazine, even supposing that I do not use this color scheme in my magazine, it is rather useful as I may still incorporate these colors into my magazine, whether or not they are prominent throughout my magazine or not. All of this considered, my chosen color scheme (being black, purple and white) still proved a popular option within my participants as 33% of them showed preference of my chosen color scheme in comparison to 44%.

Questionnaire Results

How old are you?

14 or younger15-19

As previously mentioned this question regarsing the age of the participant does not serve much use towards my research as the results which I have gathered are based solely on those who have completed my questionnaire. Although what I previously stated remains true, the results do support my primary target audience as they are between the age of 16-35.

Questionnaire ResultsMost important feature of a Hip-Hop

magazine

Main ImageMasthead

The results from the questionnaire concerning the aspect of the magazine which the participants saw to be the most important within a music magazine revealed that , as I expected, the most important feature (according to these results) is the main image. This is a result of the influence which Hip-Hop artists have on Hip-Hop music, culture and their fans. With a music magazine front cover the most noticeable feature is always the main image and therefore those who see the magazine shall almost instantly be drawn towards the main image and if they are Hip-Hop fans they may recognise the artist in the main image and so perhaps be convinced to purchase/read the magazine.

Questionnaire ResultsArtists

Drake Kanye West Eminem 50 Cent

This question taken from my questionnaire showed varied results from the same question in my survey. My survey indicated that ‘Travis Scott’ was the most popular artist, yet that being said there was a much broader range of choices and therefore the results were more widespread than those of my questionnaire which indicated that ‘Kanye West’ was the most popular artist yet this is possibly due to the fact that ‘Travis Scott’ was not included in my questionnaire as if he were to be included as an option then perhaps he would’ve been the most popular option. As a result of ‘Kanye West’ being the most popular artist within the questionnaire, and having a 22% vote in my survey, it seems that he should be included in my magazine as he has proved popular and so could increase the popularity of the magazine.

Questionnaire Results

This question of color scheme that the participants in the survey would ‘like to see in the magazine’ highlights that the most popular color scheme are both Black, Purple and White and also Blue and White. Although one of these may not be my selected color scheme it is rather helpful towards discovering popular colors amongst possible consumers of my magazine. With respect to the contribution which this will have towards my magazine, even supposing that I do not use this color scheme in my magazine, it is rather useful as I may still incorporate these colors into my magazine, whether or not they are prominent throughout my magazine or not. All of this considered, my chosen color scheme (being black, purple and white) still proved equally as popular.

Questionnaire ResultsWould you consider purchasing a

subscribtion to a monthly magazine?

NoPossiblyAbsolutely

From this question ,regarding whether participants would consider purchasing a subscription to a monthly magazine, I was able to gather that that least 60% of participants would at leas posssibly consider purchasing a subscription to a monthly magazine. These results highlight that the majority of people are likely to consider purchasing a magazine subscription on the basis that they come across which appeals to them and therefore I can infer that in order to ensure that the public would consider purchasing my magazine I must first provide an interesting and appealing magazine.
