Paris, May 17th, 2011
Paris will host the first e-G8 Forum prior to the G8 Summit
Prominent Internet leaders, including Mark Zuckerberg, Eric Schmidt and Jeffrey Bezos,have confirmed that they will attend the Forum, which will take place in Paris on May 24 and25, 2011.
Launched by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, the e-G8 Forum will organize multipleconferences and discussions, so that for the first time, voices of companies, thinkers andmajor players who build the Internet will be heard at the highest levels of world politics. Thee-G8 Forum is a platform of expression, in which all the major actors of the Internet will beable to debate, thereby enriching the discussions of the Heads of State and Government whowill subsequently meet in Deauville to examine these issues. It aims to enlighten and tonourish the discussions of the Heads of State and Government of G8 nations with the visionof the web actors regarding the Internet's importance and impact on society and theeconomy.
The e-G8 Forum will focus on the Internet's impact on the economy and society, notably viaeconomic growth, job creation, value creation, and the transformation and modernization oftraditional professions and industries through technological shifts. Panelists will also addressthe social and political issues that underlie the development of digital technologies, includingprivacy rights, intellectual property, human rights and democratization through and ofinformation. The Forum will ask what conditions can best encourage innovation in the digitaleconomy, notably in terms of education, training and financing. The mobile web revolution,the future of e-commerce: the e-G8 Forum will, additionally, discuss best practices, newusages and economic models, and the paradigm-shifting technologies that will create theInternet of tomorrow.
The President of the French Republic, Nicolas Sarkozy, has requested that the e-G8 Forum
be an initiative organized and financed by private partners, placed under the chairmanship ofMaurice Lvy, Chairman and CEO of Publicis Groupe. Partner companies include Orange,Vivendi, eBay, Google, Capgemini, Huawei, Iliad Free Fondation, Microsoft, HP, Intel,Alcatel-Lucent, Eutelsat and Thomson-Reuters.
"The program of the e-G8 Forum has been conceived to enrich our thinking and debateabout major social issues,"said Maurice Lvy. "The Internet boom has led to an explosion ofindividual initiatives. In my role as chairman of the e-G8 Forum, I am determined that all ourdebates be transparent, open both to the press and to the public at large."
The e-G8 Forum will bring together leaders of the world's digital ecosystem, from multiplefields: heads of companies in sectors including technology (operators and manufacturers),
the media, advertising, music and entertainment; experts in technologies; investors andentrepreneurs; scientists and innovators; public institutions, NGOs; bloggers, thinkers and

researchers. Companies from countries beyond the G8, including China and India, are alsoinvited to attend.

The e-G8 Forum will take place in the Tuileries Garden, in the heart of Paris. PresidentSarkozy will open the proceedings with a speech scheduled for the morning of May 24.During the Forum's two days of discussion, plenary sessions will address the Internet'smanifold links to economic growth, including its impact on society, culture, commercialmarkets, modes of communication and education. Other plenary sessions will focus onissues regarding innovation; the future of the Internet; and intellectual property. Numerousworkshop sessions will concentrate on start-ups; the Internet's impact on the press; sharingvalue; e-governance; and mobility.
