Purpose of BEST

Boosting Education Supported by Technology

Purpose:To enhance the quality of education of underprivileged children in rural areas in the Philippines, by providing modern school supplies.

Scope

• A selected number of 5 elementary schools in the rural areas of the village Lianga in the Philippines.

• Provide each school with a set of personal computers (50 in total) to be used for teaching in a modern way.The project includes in each school: – civil and electrical preparations of a classroom– transport and installation of the computers, – with appropriate software – connection to internet– supporting materials: training books, technical docs

People involved

• Ambassador at ASML is Ton Smits, his role:- Promote the project at ASML - Form a taskforce at ASML for fundraising- Communicate status and progress

• The Dutch partner for this project is the Pasuk Foundation.Director Martijn Ros, supports this project, based on many years of experience in the field of educational support in the Philippines.

• The local project manager in Lianga will be Ignacito U. Alvizo , chairman of the Mindanao Micro Finance for Rural Development Foundation (MIRDINC)His main rol in this project will be primary at location in Lianga:- To supervise the complete implementation of the project - To ensure transparency in purchase and construction and installation in cooperation with the Lianga Central Elementary School District.- To document, coordinate, and report progress on the implementation of the project.

The improvement

• Provide each school with a set of personal computers in order to:- Improve the quality of education through better access of educational materials through internet.- Introduce computer literacy of students that should bring the level of education in these schools at par with the education in cities.- better prepare the students for the next education level (high school, university, etc).- Improve computing skills by using of basic application software.- Upgrade the teaching methodology.
