Facts of the case:

Alice is an architect with an Alberta company.

She was injured in a skiing accident and was permanently physically disabled.

She experienced bouts of depression during her recovery for which she was successfully treated.

Upon returning to work, she discovers that her employer is reluctant to make adjustments to the work space and schedule which will make it possible to continue working.

Her employer reveals that he has serious concerns about Alice’s mental state and implies that her job might be at risk.

NEW TOOLS FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN

WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

The No Child Left Behind Act provides new information and options for parents of children with special needs to help them make important decisions regarding their children’s education. Under NCLB:

•Parents of children with special needs receive report cards on school achievement in special education as well as other academic areas. These report cards will enhance parents’ ability to make informed choices about their children’s education.

•Parents of children with special needs will have access to information that lets them know whether their child is learning from a highly-qualified teacher.
