Question 2How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Page 2: Presentation To Ev, Question 2

MainstreamersMy magazine is aimed at people who enjoy all sorts of

mainstream music, whether its rock or pop etc. To make my media product connote this, I made sure that I

included a lot of different artists within my magazine.

For my magazine instead of focusing on the dominant representation of young people being bad for today's

society, I am trying to focus on the alternative representation of young people being into all sorts of

music and don’t need to be doing stupid things to have a good time.

How I got this across in my magazine

For my magazine to try and get my social group across in my magazine I used lots of different things. Firstly I included on my

front cover three pictures of different people, they all look different and they all have different styles, this could show that

my magazine is aimed at all types of individuals. I also included a long list of different artists that my audience could be interested in, they all have different names and I tried to make the names

sound like a different genre of music, for example Melanie Newman, would be pop music whereas The Killer Frogs would be

rock music. I also included “New Tour Dates” in my magazine. This shows that my readers would be interested in going to concerts instead of the dominant representation of all young

people going drinking. Finally I included a competition where my readers could win a trip to Hollywood, I did this as I believe that it is a place that mainstreamers would desire to go, it also shows that people who read my magazine are interested in a range of different places and different music. I believe that my magazine

successfully represents my particular social group of mainstreamers.
