COURSE REQUIREMENTS
A. EVALUATION
1. Laboratory: The type and number of exams, quizzes (online & in class pop quizzes), and
assignments will be determined by the Instructor. * No exam will be dropped in calculating the
final grade. All students are required to take the final exams.*
*Make up exams - It is the student’s responsibility to make prior arrangements with the
instructor if unable to attend class the day of an exam. A grade of zero (0) will be given if
an exam is not taken or if prior arrangements are not made to take the exam. There are no
laboratory make-up labs.
**Exam material required by the student is a pencil or pen ONLY, if any additional
material, including cell phones or mp3 players, are visible, it will be confiscated and the
student will be referred to the Instructional Dean and /or Vice President, Student Service.

* The instructor reserves the right to adjust the grades accordingly as required. Please note the variations in
grading scales. This may help in clarifying any differences between college grade and high school grade
received. Students in Dual Credit Classes will adhere to the Dual Credit grading scale.
E. DROPPING:
The student drop date is November 9, 2017 with a “W”. If you plan to drop, make sure you fill
out the proper paperwork. Don’t assume I will drop you. Students are academically responsible
for dropping this course.
F. TUTORS AND ADDITIONAL HELP
Tutors will be available and their hours will be posted and announced. Computer software is
available seven days a week; hours will be posted. Lab assistants and tutors are here to help you
get started, and to assist you with any problems you may encounter. Take advantage of these
services, as currently these services are offered at no charge. Students who care use the tutorial
services and the computer software generally show an improvement in grade performance and
show a better understanding of the biological concepts. Tutoring can be found at Mission Del
Paso campus in the science and also from instructor.
G. CLASSROOM RULES
You are required to follow proper lab safety procedures during all laboratory procedures.
Horseplay, inappropriate behavior, and improper handling of lab materials will result in
immediate dismissal from the lab and will result in a zero for attendance.
I expect you to behave in an adult manner, but I do encourage questions and comments
regarding classroom topics.
INSTRUCTOR’S POLICIES
D. ATTENDANCE:
On-time attendance at every class meeting is required. All examinations material will come
directly from the lectures and assigned reading from the chapters as well as laboratory
material. Attendance is essential to successfully master this course; your success in this class is
correlated with attendance, 10% of your lecture grade will consist of attendance and participation.
Attendance will be taken from the start of the hour until all students have been accounted for, if
you arrive after the time you will be counted absent. Students that attend regularly generally
perform much better and score higher on exams.
Dual Credit: Please make every possible effort to take the exams on the scheduled date. If you miss an
exam, a make-up exam will be available for excused absences ONLY. It will consist mainly of essay
and/or short answer questions. If you will be traveling for competitions/events, it is the student’s
responsibility to make prior arrangements with the instructor if unable to attend class the day of the
exam.
Non-Dual High School: Following an excused absence, a student has two class periods to make up any
work. If the student receives a failing grade on an assignment, he/she has five days from the date of the
received notification of the failing grade to make arrangements to redo the assignment. The two grades
will then be averaged in order to obtain a final grade for the assignment. It is the student’s responsibility
to ensure that he/she has obtained all make up work and make arrangements to redo assignments. Make
up work and redo assignments will cover the same materials, however may differentiate in format and questions from
the original assignment.
Biology 1106: Fall 2017
C. Extra Credit: There will be several opportunities to earn extra credit. No extra credit work will
be accepted unless it is assigned by the instructor & available to all students.
Academic honesty: Cheating will not be tolerated. Being caught giving or receiving answers on
exams, using cheat sheets, or any other form of cheating, will cause immediate disciplinary
action. This can include dropping you from this class. Cell phones, iPods, mp3 players, etc. must
be put away during exams. You cannot be excused to take care of personal business during
exams.
Tardies: Tardy students should be seated without disturbing lecture. School policy allows a
student to be dropped if he/she is absent for 3 consecutive absences. Chronic tardiness will also
lead to corrective measures.
H. STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
E.P.C.C offers a variety of services to persons with documented sensory, mental, physical, or
temporary disabling conditions to promote success in classes. If you have a disability and believe
you may need services, you are encouraged to contact the Center for Students with Disabilities to
discuss your needs with a counselor. All discussions and documentation are kept confidential.

J. INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
Parents are advised the Biology Dual Credit course involves real world discussions, concerns,
and applications that have a global effect on society and our children as a whole. All aspects and
consequences as to actions will be represented in the classroom instruction. We will address these
actions and consequences as sincere as those, which one must make during the course of our
lives. As such the curriculum is presented with the outmost and unfeigned portrayal as things are
in the world today, viewed from many perspectives (Research).
Biology 1106: Fall 2017
Electronics: Please TURN OFF your cellular phones once you enter the laboratory setting. Cell
phones should not be exposed in lab. IPods/MP3 players may not be used in class. Texting is not
permitted in class as it is particularly distracting. If you are found to be using one of these
devices in lab, I will ask you to place your electronic device on the instructor’s desk for the
remainder of the lab period. If you choose not to surrender your device, you will be asked to
leave the laboratory.
