The energy relationship between the United States and Canada is vital to the future of both our countries. It is an interest we share, transcending political lines and geographic boundaries.  Crucial to U.S. energy security: Canadian oil reserves are vast and rank third in size to those of Venezuela and Saudi Arabia, with the oil sands (which represent an area larger than Florida) making up nearly 98 per cent of total Canadian reserves. With the Keystone XL Pipeline, U.S. imports from Canada, a democratic friend and ally, could reach 4 million barrels a day by 2020, twice what is currently imported from the Persian Gulf. The Keystone XL Pipeline could also provide the critical infrastructure required to transport growing U.S. domestic production from the Bakken shale region to market. …2  pcu-regina

•  Thousands of jobs: The pipeline project is expected to createthousands of manufacturing and construction jobs and generate taxrevenues and significant business activity in local economies alongthe pipeline route.

•  Efficient and reliable: As governors and premiers, we arecommitted to responsible stewardship of our shared environment.Pipelines remain the most efficient method of transporting large

volumes of crude oil, but we also recognize the need to take themeasures necessary to protect the environment and public healthand safety.

Mr. President, we consider the Keystone XL Pipeline fundamentallyimportant to the future economic prosperity of both the United States andCanada.

We strongly urge you to issue a Presidential Permit and act swiftly toapprove the Keystone XL pipeline.
