IB World SchoolPrem is the first authorised IB World School in Asia to offer all four IB programmes for students aged 3-19. IB programmes challenge students to excel in their studies, and encourage both personal and academic achievement.

The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognising their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.

Student LeadershipStudent Leadership

Senior School students participating in Chiang Mai Model United Nations Conference hosted by Prem

Recent research on student leadership indicates that leadership roles have positive effects on students’ motivation, allowing them to build a variety of skills and fostering positive interactions with their peers, their teachers and with the wider community.

A school that encourages student leadership will see intrinsic benefits as the student leaders have a positive impact on their peers and create a sound school-wide culture. Leadership skills can be learned, and Prem creates many opportunities for students throughout the school to learn these vital skills.

At Prem, students are encouraged to participate in the Junior School or the Senior School Student Councils, the highly-acclaimed International Award (also known as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award), Model United Nations (MUN) conferences, the peer mediation team, sporting teams, field trip and residential programmes and the many service activities students organise themselves.

Prem strives to educate the whole person by helping students become healthy, responsib le and compassionate c i t izens. To understand global perspect ives and issues more fully, we expose our students to a diverse range of activities. We also encourage them to participate in service initiatives across the school. These initiatives provide students with opportunities to perform meaningful and authentic tasks.

Students have the opportunity to part ic ipate in serv ice act iv i t ies through the homeroom programme, the Exploria co-curricular programme, boarding, external organisations and student initiated activities. Authentic learning opportunities are ensured by building upon what students learn in the classroom and taking it into the community.

There is a progressive component of the four International Baccalaureate programmes, as students become aware that service extends beyond doing for and engaging with others. By applying service activities to specific learning outcomes, collaborating with others and reflecting upon their experiences, students learn how to become active contributors to their community.

21

Page 24: Prem Prospectus 2016

Exploria is the after-school co-curricular activity programme available to Prem students from Grade 1. Exploria aims to expose students to many different possibilities exploring creative, physical, academic and service challenges.

It is built on the principle that co-curricular activities should be fun for the students and have strong curricular links to what is already being taught in the classroom. The activities are wide and varied and give our children numerous opportunities to learn and grow outside the traditional setting, greatly enhancing their educational experience at Prem.

Our school is located in an environment rich with learning opportunities. For Junior School students, we take advantage of our surroundings as primary resources for our Units of Inquiry, such as visits to the Traidhos farm. For Senior School students, field trips are a requirement of many subjects in the MYP, IBCP and Diploma Programme. Grade 6 to Grade 11 take part in annual one-week leadership camps in various parts of Thailand.

At Prem, we extend the learning opportunities beyond the classroom as students take on experiential challenges that build resilience, collaboration and leadership. Our education outside the classroom is integrally linked to the curriculum at all levels and offers a range of activities.

As a non-formal educational programme, the International Award (IA) can play a vital role in providing opportunities for young people to develop essential life skills, complementing their formal education. This enables them to grow in confidence and in their ability to contribute positively to their communities. The International Award at Prem is offered in Grades 9 and 10.

They have the opportunity to further their education outside the classroom with supervised study sessions in the evenings and on weekends. Access to academic staff after school hours is available when required.

Boarders can participate in a special weekend boarding programme that includes activities and study sessions, closely linked to the school’s academic programmes.

Vision

Mission

Statement

We are a community that challenges its members to act as compassionate, knowledgeable and principled global citizens: working together for a sustainable future and inspired by meaningful relationships, continuous learning and ‘good thinking’.

Prem is designed to give children the best education possible to qualify them to seek entrance into the best universities in this country and in the world. A Prem education allows parents, grandparents and relatives to participate in the child’s educational process by encouraging them to live on a full-time or part-time basis on campus and participate fully as members of the Traidhos Community.

The school is located in the beautiful hills north of Chiang Mai but only half an hour from urban conveniences and the airport link to Bangkok and the world. A Prem education is the best education possible for a child in this rapidly-changing world not only because it offers the most modern learning techniques but also because it is based on the sound principle of traditional family values.
