PRELIMINARY PROGRAMME 20162

INVITATION

We are very much looking forward to welcoming delegates from all over the world to the historic city of Poznań, Poland, for the 2016 FDI Annual World Dental Congress (AWDC) in September 2016.

This year’s international scientific programme is particularly rich and varied, featuring 57 distinguished speakers from 26 countries, including 8 from Poland. The national programme features 22 Polish experts, with lectures simultaneously translated into English. Three ‘Hot Topic’ sessions have also been programmed: Periodontics; Implantology and The Overuse of Antibiotics.

Now in its 104th year, the AWDC is one of the world’s oldest international events, created by one of the world’s oldest medical-sector organizations, and a must attend in the dental calendar. Characterized as ‘intentionally international”, it has acquired a reputation as a meeting point for exchanging of ideas and transferring knowledge, regularly bringing together renowned speakers from over 30 countries. It also hosts the World Oral Health Forum to debate the burning issues of oral health policy and practice.

While you are in the conference centre, we recommend visiting the dental exhibition – a dazzling display of the latest oral health products and technologies spread over some 5000 sq metres, comprising 9 national pavilions and over 250 individual booths. The World Dental Exhibition has been an integral part of the FDI Annual World Dental Congress ever since 1929, when an Oral Health Exhibition first took place in association with the 23rd FDI Annual Session in Utrecht (Netherlands).

Dental exhibitions play an essential role for dentists and other oral health practitioners. Where else than at a dental exhibition can you find and examine the latest in technology and products to recommend to your patients?

The Poznań Congress Center is a modern conference, exhibition, sporting and entertainment centre. Every year it organizes 2000 congresses, conferences and special events, attended by around half a million participants from around the globe.

Poznań is a pleasant and dynamic city of some 650,000 inhabitants, plus 120,000 university students in term time. It is situated half-way between Berlin and Warsaw, with easy access by air, rail and road and has numerous tourist attractions. It offers unique facilities: a centrally situated Congress Center, an extremely well-developed city-wide transport system, a large range of excellent accommodation within the vicinity of the Congress Center and strong support from the city authorities.

We hope that you will enjoy your stay in Poznań and that you will also have the opportunity to visit other parts of Poland and experience the hospitality of the Polish people, a country of striking panoramas, fascinating cultural sites and museums and charming towns and villages.

We look forward to seeing you in Poznań, from 7 to 10 September 2016.

Poznan: alive with the spirit of EuropePoznań is a place where you can feel the energy of modern Europe at every step. The city enjoys traditions stretching back a thousand years and at the same time is regarded as the Polish capital of design – in architecture, communication and fashion. It is a pedestrian-friendly city and the city’s tourist attractions can be visited on foot. It is here that you will find one of the country’s most prestigious shopping centres. Poznań can be reached directly by air (Poznań Airport) or via railway from Warsaw (300 km) or Berlin (270 km).

The secrets of the Old TownThe Old Town Market Square is one of the most colourful you will find anywhere in the world. It is not only a focal point of cultural attractions, but also entices the visitor with the wealth of traditional dishes on offer in nearby restaurants. You must try the city’s St. Martin’s crescent-shaped buns and the specialities of local breweries. It is simply the ideal place to relax after a hard day of lectures and workshops at the FDI Congress.

Best exhibitionsNo other city in Poland can boast a better exhibition complex than Poznań. The Poznań International Fair (MTP) has for many years served as an arena for major gatherings and events organised by numerous branches and industries, including dentistry. Thanks to a total exhibition area exceeding 15,000 m2, any event can be organised effectively in Poznań.

Information on local tourist attractions and facilities can be found atwww.fdi2016poznan.org

Poland: A good choiceThe general view of Poland is that it is a country which, thanks to the creative talent and energy of its people, has been able to protect itself against major economic storms. Its rapidly growing dental market and excellent geographical location are additional assets that have persuaded the FDI World Dental Federation to entrust Poland and more precisely Poznań with the task of hosting the 104th FDI Annual World Dental Congress.

Wherever you will be – you’ll fall in love with itRegardless of all the good things we say of Poznań and its many attractions, some Congress participants should consider exploring more of the country. Whether it be Warsaw with all its many contrasts, enchanting Kraków, the mountain trails in the Tatras, the sandy beaches and pier in Sopot or Masuria - the land of a thousand lakes – it will be a journey you will not regret, all the more so as the beginning of September is one of the most beautiful times in the Polish calendar.

Hospitality Polish styleA trip to Poland and Poznań may prove to be the journey of a lifetime for many of you. The people are welcoming and helpful. Poland is still one of the cheapest countries in Europe and according to the Global Peace Index, one of the safest places in the world. In the English Proficiency Index report on the level of knowledge of English in 63 countries, Poland was ranked sixth.

Information on trips around Poland can be found at www.fdi2016poznan.org
