Prader-Willi Homes of Oconomowoc
In early September, Prader-Willi Homes of
Oconomowoc opened their first PWS specific children’s
home and welcomed their first newcomer, Molly.
Starlight Home is an eight bed home nestled in a quiet
neighborhood cul-de-sac in Oconomowoc. This new
opportunity allows us to support children from across
the county, for both residential and respite needs. While
the children reside with us, we partner with our sister
agency, Genesee Lake School, to provide excellence in
educational services.
We are thrilled to be open and begin welcoming more
children very
soon. For more

In July, Margaret Ruth residents had the opportunity to cultivate their creative side at the Schauer Arts Center in Hartford. They were able to relish in the excitement that was “Shrek the Musical.” The musical put its own creative spin on the much loved movie. The performance had an abundance of upbeat and heart warming songs. The musical also delved into the background of the Shrek family,” exploring the history of everyone’s favorite ogre.
Residents agreed that the actors did a phenomenal job, through acting
and song, of taking the audience along for the ride. They also noticed
that it seemed like a full house, the seats were packed and the
atmosphere lively. The finale was particularly enjoyable…get ready to
be green with envy! The musical culminated with a big “Bang!”.
Green balloons and streamers fell from the ceiling and showered the
audience. It was definitely the climax of the show!
Margaret Ruth was even lucky enough to have a meet and greet with
some of the performers after the show. They were treated to a photo op
with Shrek’s mom!
The show was reviewed as:
“It was awesome!”
“It was so good! I’m really glad we got to
go!”
“I can’t wait to go see another musical!”

PWSA-WI 15th Annual Golf Benefit
“Yard Beautifying Day” at Lang Home
One Tuesday night in the month of August, the beautiful ladies of Lang Home
decided to show their pride in their home by beautifying their yard. Once the
idea came up, it seemed like the ladies were on a mission. They all banded
together for a fun-filled day outside. They pulled weeds and made the entrance
to the home just as beautiful as they are! Jen and Hana enjoyed pulling the tall
weeds, while Amanda, Kat, and Kelsey enjoyed sitting on the ground and
pulling all of the short weeds. Anna loved helping her peers with taking all of
the pulled weeds to the garbage, and sweeping up afterwards. After they were
done the entrance had a new look and everyone was excited with the beautiful
transformation. Afterwards the Ladies stopped for a quick photo shoot with
staff Melissa and manager, Krissy before coming in for an after
dinner well deserved coffee break for all of their hard work!
“ I really enjoyed making this house look pretty again”—Hana
“I had a fun time with my peers working together! – Anna”

On August 22nd, 2015, PWSA-WI held
their 15th Annual Golf Benefit at the
Windwood Golf Course in Watertown, WI.
Every year the Association and it’s golf
committee put on a wonderful event and
this year was no exception. Over 100 golfers came out
to enjoy a day of golf, fun, games, prizes, food and
fundraising. Annual attendees enjoyed several new
activities including an additional option of purchasing
mulligan's! The 50/50 raffle, the putting contest and
14th hole raffle continued to be a hit. This years silent
auction was filled with incredible prizes and lunch
was enjoyed by all. A heartfelt thank you goes out to
everyone who helped make this year a success.
Together over $26,000 was raised to support, educate
and advocate for individuals with PWS and their
families. The event as always was very remarkable
and memorable! Thank you all for your support and
contributions to make this event successful!!

DayRISE’s Patio Makeover With summer in full swing the Day RISE particpants
could not wait to use their brand new patio that was put
in last year, but there was a lot of work ahead to make it
look nice! That is when all the hard work of some
volunteers and Day RISE came into play…. Everyone
had to roll up their sleeves and get ready to get dirty!
A bunch of old tires where donated to Day RISE and a
couple volunteers came down to start the project by
digging up of the soil to place the tires where they
belonged. After that, we carefully placed the residents
very own handmade stepping stones into the ground
around the patio. Once all the digging was completed
the participants stepped in to take over. Each participant
had the opportunity to help clean and spray paint the
tires, fill them with soil and plant seeds in them. Then it
came time to sit back and enjoy the beautiful work we
all did! Since we have completed this project we have
had the opportunity to do multiple projects outside
including color meditation, reading and exercise. A big
thank you goes out to Anna and Dennis Brady for
donating the tires and the hard work put into getting
them placed into the ground. Along with a thank you to
Andy Schommer for working with the participants to get
the patio looking as nice as it does.—Stephanie Brady

On July 19th, 2015 Hanson House traveled to
Wisconsin Dells and visited the Wisconsin Deer
Park in . The residents walked through exhibits and
interacted with different deer species and other
animals. Other than the white tail deer which is
native to Wisconsin, we saw the American Elk
(Wapiti), American Bison, the European Fallow
Spotted Deer, the Dainty Japanese Silka Deer, Key
Deer from Florida, and a vampire like deer called
the Muntjac deer. The Muntjac comes from South
America has fangs and never grows any bigger than
a house cat. The park had other animals as well such
as: Bison, Lemurs, Goats, Game Birds, Llamas,
Emus, Rabbits, Raccoons and more. The residents
had a wonderful time feeding and petting the deer.
The highlight of the getaway was being able to
enjoy the mist provided by the deer park to help stay
cool on the bright sunny day. Hanson House had a
wonderful time watching and interacting with the
many animals they saw that day!

Dezari began working at PWHO in January of
2015. She is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner and
holds a WI prescribers license. Her position includes maintaining
weekday clinic hours for the residents at PWHO and
coordinating Health Services. She has settled into her role and
has greatly enjoyed getting to know the residents.
Dezari enjoys caring for others and brings with her 29 years of
experience in the field of nursing. While she enjoyed her career
as a nurse, she felt a strong desire to move beyond the borders of
“nursing” so she could provide more to her patients. This
desire has inspired her to become a nurse practitioner.
“As a practitioner I find the most important aspect of quality care is getting to know the patient.
Determining what will, or won’t, work for each person is vital to the success of any health care plan. I
also like to focus on prevention and wellness. I enjoy educating people about leading healthy lifestyles. I
define “healthy” as the process of taking care of your body so life can be lived to the fullest. In my role
here at PWHO, I hope to contribute not only to the health of the residents but also to their wellbeing”.
Dezari was born in WI and comes from a large family of 6 brothers and sisters. She escaped WI for a
short period and lived in Texas for 12 years. She enjoys visiting Texas in the winter and catching up with
friends and family. Her personal time is filled with activities that she enjoys doing such as reading,
listening to music, boating, fishing, and taking vacations with her significant other to warm places with
white sand beaches! She also enjoys spending time with her daughter and other family members.

Spooky Spider Snacks
Spread 10 crackers evenly with about ½
tablespoon of cheese spread; top each
cracker with another to make
sandwiches. Poke 6 pretzel sticks into
the cheese, 3 on each side, to make 6
legs. Dab two dots of cheese onto the
top of the sandwich, and stick 2 raisin
eyes on each snack.
Cheese Witch’s Brooms
Fold each cheese slice and cut
the fringes of the broom using a
pair of scissors. Roll the slice of
cheese around a snack stick
having the fringes looking down.
Finally to keep the cheese
around the stick, use some chive
and knot it around.
