Case Studies
A total of 18 sash windows have been renovated
at the historic building, which dates back to
the 1850s and was originally home to theJoules Brewery.
Today it is the headquarters of MG Sanders, a
specialist precision engineering company that
services the pharmaceutical, defence, aerospace
and motorsport sectors.
Ventrolla Staffordshire & Salop was called in
during the initial planning stage to carry out a
full survey and advise on how best to approachthe window renovation to ensure the character
and original look of the landmark building
was retained.
Ventrolla managed the complete turn-key
project, which involved repair and restoration
of the original window timber, re-glazing
and project management of the decoration
through a sub-contractor.
Cheers all round as Ventrolla Staffordshire and Salop helps
the former Joules Brewery retain its character in
Stone, Staffordshire.

The windows were also upgraded using the
Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System (VPSS),
which has been tested to 600 Pa, the equivalent
to winds of 71 mph, and achieves Class 3 of BS
6375-1. A Sash Removal System (SRS) was also
fitted to ensure the sashes can be accessed from
inside the building for future maintenance.
Tony Dee, Managing Director for Ventrolla
Staffordshire & Salop, said: This was quite an
unusual project because the windows are
situated over a canal, making health and safety a
critical issue.
And w hi le t he Vent ro ll a s ys tem enabl es
decoration from inside the building, the painting
of a number of low level grilles required us to
hire a tug boat to gain access from the canal.
It is great to have restored these spectacular
period windows to their former glory, as well as
helping to improve the overall energy efficiency of
the building.
With its national headquarters in Harrogate,
North Yorkshire, Ventrolla was established
in 1986 and operates via a network of
regional offices.
