Colin ElliottA Gospel singer in the United Kingdom, will come to

FCUMC’s Positive Christian Singles on Feb. 17th. He regularly tours throughout the UK, Ireland, England, and the US on an annual basis singing in churches and theatres. We are excited that he will be with us to share his God given talents through song. He has just released a new solo worship album entitled “More than a Song” as well as “New Man in Town.”

We would love to have you attend and if interested call the church offi ce and speak with Nancy by Monday morning at 9:00, February 17th if interested in the meal. The cost is $8 and a reservation is needed. We eat at 6:00 p.m. followed by the program at 6:30 p.m.

Hope to see you there!

Several years ago, Dayspring Cards put out a Valentine’s Day Prayer written by Holley Gerth and based on 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. I would like to paraphrase it as we think about the Love month and all it should mean to us as Christians.

• Lord, because love is patient – help me to be slow to judge, but quick to listen. Hesitate to criticize, but eager to encour-age, remembering your endless patience with me. And oh, how

thankful I am that you have patience with ME!• Because love is kind – help my words to be gentle,

my actions to be thoughtful and loving, and remind me to smile and say please and thank you because they are powerful words. Love is the universal language and many times our actions speak louder than words.

• Because love does not envy or boast, and it is not proud – Help me to have a heart – that is humble and sees the good in others. May I celebrate and appreciate each day that the Lord has given me. What a gift of love!!

• Because love is not rude or self-seek-ing – help me speak words that are kind and just don’t speak if it is going to hurt someone.

• Because love is not easily angered and keeps no record of wrongs. Help me to forgive others as you have forgiven me. Help me not to hold a grudge, but to let it go and move on in love instead of hate.

• Because love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth – Help me stand up for what is right and good. May I defend the defenseless, help the helpless, and show how I can make a difference for His kingdom.

• Because love always protects and always trusts – Help me to be a refuge for those around me. When the world outside is harsh and cold, may my heart be a place of acceptance and warmth.

• Finally, because love always perseveres – Help my heart continually to beat with love for You and others.

So, as we look to Valentine’s Day let’s think about it from the Biblical worldview that the greatest of these is love. God loves us so much that He sent His son to die for us so that we might share His love with a dying world.
