On the right bank of the river you will finda city rich with history. The old OstrówTumski dates back to the 10th century andthe birth of Poland, and if you head to thecathedral there you will find within its coolwalls the tombs of the first Polish kings.
Cross over to the left bank of the Wartaand you’ll come across crowds of studentsvisiting the Old Town Square with itsRenaissance Town Hall, colourful buildingswith ornamental trimmings, and rows ofcosy cafés and pubs offering deliciousPolish beer. ESSENTIAL INFORMATION
AirportThe Poznan-Lawica Airport is located 7 kmfrom the town centre by the mainmotorway running via Warsaw to Berlinand leads directly to main parts of town:the town centre, the exhibition centre andtrain station. It’s easiest to take a taxi andthis should cost about 20 PLN into thetown centre. And busses 78 and 59 headinto town roughly every ten minutes.

Public transportIn the centre it’s easiest to get around bytrams meanwhile to get to the outskirts oftown you’ll find plenty of busses. A normalticket valid for a one-way for 10 minutejourney costs 1,30 PLN, a half-hour ticketcosts 2,60 PLN, and an hour 3,90 PLN. It’sworth buying a one-day ticket 11,40 PLNor if you’re staying longer a weekly 26PLN. Tickets can be bought in kiosks or inautomated ticket machines. You need tostamp them in a ticket reader as soon asyou board a bus or tram.
