1988• In November Mr. Paul Edwards from Information Trust Corporation (ITC)
now TransUnion, hosted the first Steering Committee meeting to discuss the establishment of the Association at the Mmabatho Sun
1989 • In January the Steering Committee met at Edgar’s Head Office in Edgardale. Their first task was to prepare the Association to begin operation on a formal basis and to employ the services of a Director
• On the 18th of April the inaugural General Meeting of the CCA was held
• Sir George Coppin was appointed as the first Executive Director of our Association, he worked three days a week and served until 1994
• Mr R Maydon appointed as the Chairman and served until 1991
• The first Manco comprised 6 members from the retail sector: Amrel, Beares, Edgars, OK Bazaars, Sales House, Truworths

1989• The annual budget was R150 000• Founding members paid R9 000 annual membership fee payable at the AGM by
cheque • Our Twelve Founding members consisted of 10 Retailers and 2 Credit Bureaus (ITC
and Kredit Inform)• Within the first year, 5 Affiliates Members joined the Association, these members
could include parties who did not contribute data and could not vote
• Non contributors would pay a premium for information access and contributors would be compensated. The greater the contribution to the database, the greater the discount
Our first Mission Statement:
“The Association is to become an authority on all consumer credit matters in South Africa, whose membership will be recognised for professionalism, integrity, responsibility and non-discrimination in the granting of credit
facilities.
An Association whose membership will adopt a positive consumer orientation, such that the needs of consumers, in the form of appropriate credit facilities, can be met. These facilities to be granted solely on the
basis of credit worthiness, and such consumers to be advised and educated with regard to their responsibilities in the usage of credit.
Members of the Association will not only seek, to ensure the ongoing prosperity of their businesses, but will strive for the higher interests of consumers and the further upliftment of economic activity in this country.”

1990On the 3 April our 2nd AGM was held at Edgars Head Office in Edgardale Johannesburg
Members were required to bring a cheque to pay 50% of their annual 1990 membership fees which were:• Full Members R9 000• Associate Members R2 000• Affiliate Members R400

Mr. Hugh Wroe-Street spotted on the CCA AGM attendance list for the first time
Mr. S Marais appointed Chairman followed by Mr. C van Heerden in the same year
• Membership pricing was reformulated based on turnover categories• R500m and below R500m were introduced

• Mr. Herb Schröder spotted on the AGM attendance list
• Mrs. Ansa Jordaan joins the CCA as the Office Administrator

• The CCA 500 Layout is designed and agreed to and data is shared electronically on the participating credit bureaus

• Foschini and Truworths make the decision to share their full dataset (positive and negative)
• Mr. Frans Jordaan appointed as Executive Director and served until 1999
1995
• The CCA and the Furniture Traders Association purchase Furncredit House to accommodate our offices
• Membership fees changes for members with a turnover greater than R1bn, as a result of the merging of member’s companies
• No loading of any adverse status codes for debt below R50 was introduced and existing data deleted from the credit bureaus
• Nedcor Bank’s Card Division becomes the first bank to join the CCA

• Mr. Eric Hackett appointed as Chairman• Other Banks join the CCA and start sharing limited data• The Joint Banks Credit Bureau (JBCB) is disbanded and data is moved to selected
credit bureaus

• Mr. K van Wyk de Vries appointed as Chairman• The Micro Finance Regulatory Council (MFRC) established to regulate micro lenders
1998
• Mr Andre Gardiner appointed as Chairman, followed by• Mr Pieter Meiring who served until 2000
1999
• Mr. Dan Painter appointed as Executive Director and served until 2000• Banks start sharing their full datasets
2000
• Mr. B.R. (Dick) Behrens appointed as Chairman• In the early 2000’s a project commenced to migrate the CCA500 Data Specification
to that of the L700• The first insurance companies join the CCA
• Mr. Albert Elliot appointed as Executive Director and served until 2008
• ITC and Experian appointed to host the National Loans Register (NLR) dataset
2002
• FAIS Ombud established• Saambou collapses
• ITC changes its name to TransUnion ITC
2004
• Data reciprocity agreement reached between the CCA and MFRC on NLR data
• The Credit Information Ombud is established and, the CCA accepts a seat on their council

• Mr. Ian Wood appointed as Chairman and served until 2007
2006
• The National Credit Regulator (NCR) and National Credit Act (NCA) are instituted and MFRC ceases to exist
• The first data removal occurs
2007• Mr. Brett van Aswegen appointed as Chairman and he served until 2010• 21 June – CCA’s name changes to the Credit Providers Association (CPA)
2008
• Mr. Gavin Long appointed as Executive Director and served until 2012• The National Debt Mediation Association (NDMA) is established• The “Credit Bubble” results in extensive credit granting• The CPA Offices move to Bryanston
