Objectives The online course has been designed for national and international students who would like to further their studies in engineering science at a German university. The course is a mixture of marketing, self-assessment and academic advising: ■ presenting the quality, the diversity and the different perspectives of engineering science studies at TU9 Universities ■ giving initial insights into graduate courses of study ■ sharing knowledgeable insights into the central issues, content, structures and working methods of the various engineering science disciplines ■ facilitating the opportunity to get to know fellow students ■ establishing a common workflow and evaluating values for TU9 coproduced MOOCs Discover Excellence in Engineering and the Natural Sciences – Made in Germany MOOC@TU9 TU9 German Institutes of Technology e. More than 250,000 students, or ten percent of all German students, are registered at TU9 Universities. In Germany roughly 50 percent of all engineers with university degrees come from TU9 Universities; some 51 percent of the doctorates in engineering are awarded at TU9 Universities. The TU9 Universities offer more than 130 master’s courses held in English. General information MOOC@TU9 is a joint project of the alliance of the 9 leading Institutes of Technology in Germany (TU9). Format: Lecture series; Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) Duration: Oct 20 - Dec 21 2014 (nine weeks) Language: English Requirements: none; basic knowledge for undergraduate studies in STEM-subjects is recommended Participating ■ Open - Everybody who is interested can participate in the course. - The participation is at no charge. - You may attend the live sessions and access course materials without registration. - Participation in individual course weeks is possible./Da die einzelnen Wochenthemen nicht aufeinander auauen, ist die Teilnahme sowohl am ganzen MOOC als auch nur bei einzelnen Themen möglich. ■ Online - Wordpress, Youtube, Magma ■ Course - You have to be registered, if you want to join in the discussion in the forum or to hand in weekly tasks. - You can get an official statement of accomplishment if you complete at least five of the 19 weekly tasks. - Because of the fact that in the course information on further study programs in engineering science are presented basic Bachelor skills are needed. There are nine diffe- rent main topics: Didactics Technologies Start-up Models in Civil Engineering Digital Engineering Models in mechanical and Electrical Engineering Models in Material Engineering Future Building Mobility Robots Aerospace switch streams in Hangout on Air play prerecorded materials director coordination, youtube control, initiates hangout on air and publishes link to live-stream on course page host video server (Wirecast) professor at location A professor location B all elements can be at different locations, in our case: • central coordination and video server at the University Hannover • studio with moderator at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology • two or more professors from at least two additional locations Google Hangout on Air Live Stream IRC chat for audience questions Streaming with Google Hangout on Air internal coordination between the locations during the live-event with Skype: • technical issues • timing, e.g. when is the next appearance from whom • backchannel from IRC moderation to moderator relaying questions supply of the recording (YouTube channel) alternative supply for countries with no access to YouTube (e.g. China) Embedding of video on course page. Breaking down the the 1h30m video in smaller parts: Special embed code allows embedding for a targeted viewing of slices, e.g. like one interview or the weekly task.
