Poseidon

Who is Poseidon?• Poseidon is the god of sea, earthquakes, and
horses.• He drives a chariot, holds a trident, but often
changes shape.
Moral Responsibility
• He is worshipped because of his navigation and being a fertility god.
• His responsibility: control the sea, and cause earthquakes.
Family History
• He is son of Cronus and Rhea.• He is brother of five siblings.• Poseidon’s wife is Amphirite, and had over 50
kids with other women.
Myth
• When Poseidon was born he was swallowed by Cronus, but rescued by Zeus, or Rhea tricked Cronus, swallowing a horse instead.
Involvement of Odysseus’s Journey
• Odysseus wins the war (help of Poseidon). Lack of credit, Odysseus is punished.
• Poseidon, again, punishes Odysseus for blinding his son, Polyphemus.
Modern Relevance
• Poseidon always keep his promises(moral/value society holds today)
• Poseidon made rough seas; it is still issues we face today.
