process: iteration

30° N150° N

This study was an exercise in controlled play and the exploration of form. Following sketching studies of a sculptural precedent, the radial forms were then explored in an intense iterative phase of model making, not aided by digital means, in order to familiarize oneself with the form’s tectonic conditions.

These tectonic conditions were then documented digitally and further explored parametrically.

The tectonic condition was then translated to a designed scaled pavilion, to be later cut to digital specifications and built in a similar fashion to the precedent.

process: fabrication

An exercise in digital fabrication and assembly; realizing forms in three dimensions in each phase of the design process. A series of study models were 3D printed to explore the stereotomic nature of that process, and select pieces were then modified with laser cut assemblies to explore the tectonic characteristics of that printing process.

This project places a mosque in an Omaha, Nebraska suburb. The intent was to embedd a sacred space quietly in the rapidly growing neighbor-hood, providing a place of refuge from the urban hardscape by preserving the native prarie landscape as much as possible. Compared to the large amount of churches in Omaha, practicing Muslims only have a few places Of worship in the region. The Askarben Mosque plans to serve practicing Muslims of the greater Omaha area.

The Askarben Mosque site is located in a major commercial shopping district of Omaha, behind two large big box shopping centers. Nestled Between 71st and a small creek, the mosque is intended to act as refuge from the busy multi-lane streets of Pacific and 72nd, but also serve as a landmark for the community and home for the practicing Muslims in the Omaha region.

Placed at the heart of a growing neighborhood in central New Orleans, this housing project adresses the large scale of the former industrial structures that remain in the area and the new housing developments as well as the smaller residential shotgun-style homes that remain in neighboring blocks.

One wing of the development is organized as a standard single-loaded apartment, while another is a knotting of multi-family apartments of various configurations.

Finally, the project adopts the southern stoop typology, but adapts it at a larger public scale akin to the southern courtyard, now serving a larger public community rather than a private resident.
