Human Population
Population Explosion• 1830 population at 1 billion.• 1930 population at 2 billion
(100 yr. doubling time).• 1975 population at 4 billion
(45 yr. doubling time).• 1999 Population hit 6 billion on Oct.

Global Inequity• Population and resources to sustain it are
not evenly distributed.• Countries with small (affluent) population
and life style supported by sophisticated technology (and excess use) demand a high proportion of resources.
• Countries with large population and a “survival” lifestyle produce low cost items for the affluent population.

Population Control• Birth Controls.
– Avoidance/Abstinence– Mechanical/Chemical (condom,
spermicides, diaphragms, cervical cap, vaginal sponge)
– Surgical (vasectomy, tubal ligation)– Chemical (pill, implants)– Physical to egg implantation - IUD– Abortion (surgical, chemical)
