THE STORY OF POOL-SKELETONNERINGPool-Skeletonnering is a slow all-year sliding sport in which an individual person rides a small sled over a
cold track in a swimming pool while lying face down, during
which athletes experience ingravidity, cold and humidity in the entire body.It originated in St. Moritz,
Switzerland as a spin-off from the
popular winter sport of Skeleton. The sport of skeleton can be traced to 1882. As the popularity
of the sport grew in Europe, in 2002 skeleton was added permanently to the Olympic Program.
Nowadays, due to climate changes, there are some areas
that will not have snow anymore. For this reason, a group of teenagers have invented this new sport: sliding on water
surface, mainly in swimming pool yet on the sea.

Nixiebunny said in 09/04/2012 in www.boingboing.net:
“In the big scheme of things, it's not a problem for the Earth if the climate changes, as it has done many times in the last four billion years. It just affects us humans, as we tend to build houses near the shorelines”
SPORTAthletes are currently able to practice
the sport regardless of weather
conditions. The sport is also promoted by
skeleton officials as a gateway sport to
“train young, aspiring athletes...for their
future career in pool-skeletonnering.The major competitions of non-
Olympic seasons include the World
Championships and World Cups, held
annually. The rankings and results from
these competitions determine the starting positions for future races. Based on the
overall performance of a country, the
International Federation of Pool-
skeletonnering-IFPS detemines which
countries may participate in the Olympic games.

SPORTFor the male competition, the best 12 nations based on World Cup rankings may
participate, whereas for ladies, the best 8 may do so.
The “toboggans”used in Alpine countries at the end of the 10th century were inspired by
Canadian/Indian sleds used for transport.
In 2010, the IFPS restricted the materials with which sleds are permitted to be made. Sled
must be made of steel; the belt, however, may be made of plastics, as it helps sled to secure the athlete during a run.
Belt
Sled
‣ Began in Sta. Ana Island, in 2011
‣ Takes its name from the winter sport “skeleton”
‣ Sleds can weigh no more than 2 pounds
‣ Athlete should lay on the stomach over the sled and secure itself
with the sled-belt
‣ Enter in the swimming pool/or the sea, laying on the stomach over
the watter and get acceleration by swimming with its arms in free
style, without driving by legs and/or foot.
