Flexible Duct and the Building Code of Australia (BCA)In May of 2012 the building industry officially adopted the new Building Code of Australia (BCA)

This code is very specific in detailing the level of thermal rating of flexible duct that is to be used as a minimum in the installation of heating and cooling systems. The code provides this detail by geographical area for both residential and commercial applications throughout Australia and a most cases the minimum thermal requirement of flexible duct is R1.0.

In most commercial applications R1.0 thermal rated flexible duct can only be used if it is no more than three metres in length or if it is installed in a conditioned space. Where these conditions cannot be met R2.0 thermal rated duct must be used. The Polyaire Superior with its R2.0 thermal rating complies with the BCA regulations for all of these commercial applications.
