want people to move into our community who will buy homes that are empty and start paying dues like we do which will help us build a stronger financial base for the future.

Finally, on a related note about buying and selling homes please be aware that our real estate company is fully operating now and we have at your disposal experienced real estate professionals to help stimulate the sale of property in Pocono Farms. If either you or someone you know has an interest in buying or selling property in Pocono Farms, please contact The Pocono Farms Real Estate office as they specialize in marketing property in Pocono Farms. Your Board wishes you a very happy holiday season and hopes that 2014 is your best year ever!

We are now in the fall season with winter knocking on the door. The weather was good for the month of October. Every year on Halloween Eve (aka mischief night) the crime watch teams up with our Security Chief, Artie Furman, and patrols the community.

We do this to help keep mischief night under control. The crime watch patrol drivers that volunteered this year are: Russ Kelly, Eric Goins, Ed McDade, Maria and Joe Dean, and Sherry Zbar. All reported a quiet night. Thanks for helping out. During the month our drivers patrolled the Farms for 112 hours making our presence known in order to keep crime at a minimum.

Our snowbirds will be leaving shortly for a warmer climate. We wish them a safe trip and a good winter. This month we added a new member to our group. Welcome to Bernie Pasquale. Thanks for joining us.

We are still looking for more drivers. If you can spare a few hours a month, call the office and someone from the committee will call you.

JUNK MAIL HELP: When you get ‘ads’ enclosed with your phone or utility bill, return these ‘ads’ with your payment. Let the sending companies throw their own junk mail away. When you get those ‘pre-approved’ letters in the mail for everything from credit cards to 2nd mortgages and similar type junk, do not throw away the return envelop.

Most of these come with postage-paid return envelopes, right? It cost them more than the regular 44 cents postage, ‘IF’ and when they receive them back. It costs them nothing if you throw them away! The postage was around 50 cents before the last increase and it is according to the weight. In that case, why not get rid of some other junk mail and put it in these cool little, postage-paid return envelopes.

If you want to remain anonymous, just make sure your name isn’t on anything you send them. You can even return the envelope empty if you want to just keep them guessing! It still costs them 44 cents.

Let’s help keep our postal service busy since they are saying that e-mail is cutting into their business profits, and that’s why they need to increase postage costs again. You get the idea!

Thoughts from the ManagerBy DAve tIMkO

We are getting close to wrapping up another year at Pocono Farms. I will save the full wrap up until after the first of the year when all of the final numbers are in. That being said, 2013 was a fairly good year for us overall. After a slow start to the summer season, we finally kicked into gear at the end of June with the start of the pool and swim season. The swim team had the highest amount of participants than it ever had. The volunteers and coaches made it a fun and memorable season for all. The golf season got under way in the middle of April. The early trend saw a little growth in membership. The conditions on the course all season were fantastic. All of the golf events were well attended and the food and beverage service complimented those events. We ended the season with over 37 fall golf members joining the club. The goal is to retain as many of those members for the 2014 season.

The food and beverage business did very well also. All of the larger community events were well attended. Although it is impossible to control the weather for all of these outside events, we would like to thank all of those members who continue to support us.

We also experienced a change in a key staff position. Joe Sprovkin was named our Recreation Director in August. Joe started right before Labor Day weekend. This was trial by fire as Joe had only days to prepare for the weekend. He did have a little more time to prepare for the Oktoberfest and Halloween events. Joe’s challenge going forward is to provide a diversified program for all ages. Joe had about 30 teens for the Halloween event at the community room on October 25th. This is a very positive sign. I can only anticipate the participation increasing as Joe continues to develop the programs.

Chef Rich Morgan resigned in early October after almost 6 years at Pocono Farms. He accepted a position closer to his home and family and we want to thank him for his years of service and wish him all the

best in his future endeavors. We are in the process of interviewing for our next Executive Chef. We have come a long way in our food and beverage services and hiring the right person to compliment the balance of the staff and to keep the momentum moving forward in the kitchen is critical to our future success.

Finally, as we head into winter, our equipment has been serviced and is ready to go. Please understand that we have a lot of cul-de-sacs and roads to open up during these snow events. It does take us time to get to all of them. We will always do our best in getting the roads plowed and passable in the most safe and efficient manner possible. Our main goal is to open up as much of the roadways as possible. This means we do plow the snow to the outside and not into the middle of the cul-de-sacs. As we close out 2013, we look forward to 2014 with much anticipation in our continuing efforts to make Pocono Farms the desired community in which people to choose to live. Have a safe and Merry Christmas and Holiday season with your friends and family.

Women’s Club NewsBy DArLene SCHuLtz

The highlight of the November meeting of the Pocono Farms Women's Club was a highly enlightening program centered upon nutrition for senior citizens. Terri, a social worker and Louisa, a registered dietician from Golden Living Center in East Stroudsburg provided guidelines for healthy living and suggestions for attaining improved personal goals.

The December 11th meeting is the special holiday luncheon featuring entertainment by the children of our "Mommy and Me" program. New members of The Women's Club are always welcome. Please contact the office for additional information.

Round by RoundBy JOe ACLA

As I sit here and start to write this article for the December weathervane, I find it hard to believe that the 2013 golf season is over, as well as my 9th year here at Pocono Farms. This year has been a great year for golf. We picked up 35 new members in the spring and then picked up 37 Fall Specials bringing our year end membership number to 251 members.

I want to say welcome to all the new members and look forward to all of you returning for the 2014 golf season. All of this couldn’t have taken place without a great team effort from Adam Herman and his great staff on the golf course keeping us in the best shape of any golf course in the area all season long.

I also want to thank my staff starting with our Assistant Golf Professional, Matt Monti, who joined our team this spring and has grown into a very good Golf Professional. The outside staff again did a great job this year keeping everything running smoothly with the carts and 1st tee. Starting in the early part of 2014, we will be contacting all of the members to get feedback from you so we can make your experience here at Pocono Farms a better one.

I want to thank all of the members who participated in the all of the Club events this year. Congratulations

to all the winners from the 2013 golf season. The list is located on the web page under “Member’s Corner.” I hope that ALL members have a safe and happy holiday season and again, I look forward to seeing everyone in the spring.

In October, a team from Pocono Farms represented the Club in Orlando for the National Scramble Championship. The team consisted of Tim Holland, Frank Debrincat, Greg Shields, Laurie McDonald and PGA Professional, Joe Acla. The tournament was held on 2 of the Disney courses, Lake Buena Vista and Magnolia. The team finished in 10th place and had a great time.

In an ongoing effort to keep Pocono Farms Country Club an enjoyable place to play, Adam and his crew over the last 2 years have been adding new red and white tee boxes. All of the work is in line with the master plan and the final project will be completed later this year and opened for play in the 2014 golf season. The following tee boxes have been added:
