"Nikki" Barranger, local attorney, author, thespian, and an Honorary Life Patron of the theater. The play will open on May 5 and performances continue on weekends through May 21, 2017. The only complete play by Barranger, Practice has never before been performed before an audience. Directing is Anne Pourciau, Barranger’s friend and fellow thespian. “I, along with the cast and crew, are delighted to honor the longtime patron (and actor) of Playmakers, Nikki Barranger,” said Pourciau. “We’ll do this by bringing our energy and experience to his original and never-produced dark comedy.” Barranger was an important figure at the theater. His mother, Miriam Barranger, was a founder, and he was involved in the theater’s very first production in July 1955. As many know, Playmakers’ first playhouse was destroyed by a fire in 1976. Few knew that Nikki guaranteed the loan to rebuild the theater and personally went door-to-door to raise the funds to retire the debt. This was Nikki’s character, and is a demonstration of his love for theatre and for Playmakers. He continued his support throughout his life. The story explores the root of the human condition through a group therapy session with seven unique characters played by Christina Viers as Helen Garganus, a libido-less, a hedonic, social worker; Nicole Hebert Barwick as Rosalind Plant, a masked 97 year-old with all the right strokes; Tom Hassinger, playing Max Silverfield, a lawyer with a critical mid-life detachment; Earl Mylie as W.P. Jones, a longshoreman with an unsought frustration in his love-life; Deborah Marcelle as Gladys Guarnieri, a voiceless lecturer with an electronic friend; Roswell Pogue as Monty Lax, a terminally sick advertising person with a song in his head, and Megan Eddy as Pauline Vice, a half-orphaned, armigerous co-ed with an attitude and a fondness for poultry. Their lives come crashing together as they try to understand the circumstances that brought them there. Performances are weekends May 5-21; Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. There will be no show on May 7th. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students.
