Collecting original photos for cover

LOCATIONS

Location for Front Cover:

One front cover image was taken at the river in Medmenham. Here – there is a small field. I chose a time when it would be relatively empty and would be perfect for the photo shoot. Therefore, I took my photos at sunset on a weekday evening. This location was appropriate as it is with the environment and is very natural, which coincides with a lot of Indie beliefs. The Main image for the front cover was taken at a cottage in Frieth, after a party, Here, I collected a couple of dressed up people and made a scene that looked like a promotion picture for a band.

Location for Contents Page:

Images used for the contents page were of two different locations.

1. The image of the Ukulele was taken in a garden where I could find a plant that would make the Ukulele look natural and would bring a natural effect to it.

2. The other image is of Venice Beach in Los Angeles, California. I took these generic looking images when I was out there with the media magazine in mind. This location was good as it was exotic and a little different. I took the pictures at midday sort of time, to get the beach at its brightest and sunniest.

Location for Double Page Spread:

All the images for the Double Page Spread were taken in Los Angeles. The pictures I chose and the locations are very good – each very different areas. One image was taken on Venice Beach, another in the Hollywood hills, and the final image taken from a view from Universal Studios in Universal City. These locations give the audience a wider look at what they would receive from the holiday and real images of how LA looks.

PROPS AND COSTUMES FOR PHOTO SHOOT.

The costuming for this photo shoot is all different and quite erratic. Here, I took several different ‘outlooks’ or types of indie style and put them all together. So, I used odd props and quirky looking outfits. This made the group look like an Indie band, with different elements of the indie style incorporated. The parrot toy brought in a lot of colouring and was an eye catching part of the image. I didn’t want any of the costumes to be particularly similar, so I brought in the idea of a ‘fancy dress’ sort of scenario, and made some parts of the costuming quite plain to even it out and not have too much going on in the picture.

1st Image – Main image for Front Cover, A group of four people standing by a house. I considered taking slanted shots, but decided against the idea, as I wanted the readers to be able to solely focus on the people in the shot, rather than the effects added to the photo and how the shot was taken.

2nd Image – The contents page Ukulele advertisement. I considered many different shot angles for this, but then decided on it being slightly slanted to the left, (centre image flipped). I wanted it to be slightly slanted as it looked too serious and looked less slick and professional.
