LOOKING TOWARD YOUR FUTURE
and matching a portfolio with the amount of risk you’re
comfortable with:
• The Aggressive Portfolio invests in active and indexed
multi-cap domestic and international stocks with the
objective of long-term growth. The risk is higher because
of market volatility—the ups and downs of trading and the
financial markets.
• The Moderate Portfolio combines large cap equities,
international equities and fixed income securities. These
investments seek moderate to higher returns from income
and long-term appreciation. This is typically a good bet for
folks who want to see growth but also want some stability
and security.
• The Conservative Portfolio looks for a competitive return,
but with low to moderate risk by investing in large cap
domestic equities, international equities and intermediate
maturity debt securities. These investments provide lower to
moderate returns from income and long-term appreciation
and can be thought of as the most “stable.”
Regardless of the portfolio, investing makes sense. If you
need help in determining what investments are right for you,
check with The Trust Company for assistance.
PLANNING AHEAD FOR DREAMS OF RETIREMENT
Experts agree: regardless of where you are at in your work
career, it’s never too early to think about retirement. That’s
because investing in your future can pave the way to truly
golden years.
To this end, our partners at The Trust Company
recommend planning accordingly. All too often, employees
put retirement planning on the backburner, focusing
instead on day-to-day needs or monthly expenses. In fact,
21 percent of Americans have nothing saved for retirement.
What’s more, 28 percent of workers between the ages of
55 and 65 worry they won’t be able to afford basic living
expenses—like rent, utilities and food—during retirement.
“It’s never too early to start planning,” says Renee
Goubeaux, a principal at The Trust Company. “In fact,
putting aside funds—no matter how small—early on can
compound savings as the years go on. The sooner you
start, the longer your investments have to grow. Best of all,
there’s still time to start investing later in life, too. With all
the options out there, there’s no reason to avoid thinking
about retirement and planning accordingly.”
To this end, Designetics has set up a number of options
in our employee 401k designed to maximize potential.
And, it all starts with assessing your investing risk level,
Here are some retirement planning tips from Renee Goubeaux, a principal at The Trust Company:
MAKE SAVING AND INVESTING A HABIT
Put a few dollars in a savings account every month or contribute a portion of your paycheck to your
retirement plan participant account. The amount isn’t important. Just get started and stick with it.
Remember: Good habits often don’t get formed on the first try. If something interferes with your saving or
investing plan, try again.
PICK A PLAN
If you can’t decide, there’s a default option selected for you in the Designetics 401k. This option—The
Moderate Portfolio—is too conservative for a risk-tolerant 20-year-old and too aggressive for a risk-averse
70-year-old. But, this is a good middle-of-the-road option for most investors.
DETERMINE YOUR TIME HORIZON
If retirement is more than seven years away, you have a medium-term time horizon. Less than three years is a
short time horizon. An investor with a three-year time horizon should be more conservatively invested than
they were seven years ago, unless his or her risk tolerance has changed.
GAUGE YOUR RISK TOLERANCE
Do you get anxious when your retirement plan account statement shows a loss? Market conditions can go up
and down, so it’s important that you choose an investment option that matches your comfort level with risk.
CONSULT THE PROFESSIONALS
Even the savviest investor needs help. Check with your HR Department when you have questions about
retirement.

ADOPT AMERICA NETWORK/HEART GALLERY
Adopt America Network believes every child should have a safe, loving,
permanent home. They work to place children in United States foster care,
who have had parental rights terminated, with forever families. Their focus is
on placing children with special needs, such as sibling groups, older children,
and those with medical, physical, and emotional challenges. They provide a
range of services to bring and keep families and children together. The Heart
Gallery is a portrait exhibit presented by Open Homes and Adopt America
Network. The Gallery plays an important role in raising awareness about
adoption from foster care and connecting families to adoption.
Did you know, there are more than 400,000 children in foster care today?

APRIL FOOL’S STORIES

“About three years ago a bunch of us ordered Chipotle
with Mark. Mark doesn’t like veggies and as everyone
knows, LOVES Chipotle. For an April fool’s joke, Ben
ordered all veggies and sour cream for Mark’s order. When
he called Chipotle about adding the additional burrito,
Chipotle was excited and even offered to pay for the extra
burrito! When passing out everyone’s food, Ben hid Marks
original burrito and gave him the one with all veggies, sour
cream, and salsas. The workers at Chipotle made sure
to make it extra sloppy, soupy, and gross. Mark was so
mad and was ready to call Chipotle. Then Ben slid over
the actual burrito. Everyone suddenly started laughing
hysterically in the break room.”
— Ben G
“Liz told Gale she hit her car in the morning. Gale believed
her and stormed out into the break room to find out it was
an April fool’s joke!”
— Liz M
all sorts of manufacturing processes, industries and end
products. That’s the case with us. After all, we invented the
fluid application industry when we were tasked with a way
to create repeatable, even and rapid fluid application for
automotive windshields decades ago.
Since that time, we’ve left our mark—literally—on a wide
variety of industries, manufacturers and processes. For
example, we’ve perfected a number of very specific
techniques, impacting a variety of industries and processes.
And we’ve left our mark—via fluid applications—on cars,
airplanes, toys, sophisticated electronics, boats and other
marine vessels, circuitry, medical components, construction,
structural glazing, retail packaging and more.
In fact, we daresay that we’ve left our mark on your everyday
life…and will continue to explore more ways of leaving our
mark today and in the future.
“Missy brought a fart machine in and hid the small sound box
behind the plant on Tammy’s desk. Missy continued pressing
the button all day while Tammy thought various coworkers
were farting around her. While Brad was by the front table
and Tammy was clocking out, Missy pressed the button
again, making Brad think Tammy was farting by him. Tammy
found out about Missy’s prank on lunch. Tammy turned it
back around on Missy and Charties and made them believe
they missed a staple and Tammy was going to write them up
for it. April fools! ”
— Missy W
“An old employee came in and made everyone believe he
broke his leg. He even brought crutches in. Everyone was
helping him all day long to get around. Then at the end of the
day he threw the crutches down and yelled April fools!”
— Don W

DID YOU KNOW?Don W and Brian K are the most tenured employees at Designetics. Together
they have almost 45 years working with us!
Don’s Favorite Memory about Designetics: I love our annual Memorial
Day cookouts because of how much fun they are! Craig always makes brats,
burgers, chicken, and grills all of the main entrees. All of the employees also
add in by bringing the side dishes. We always have a massive amount of food
afterwards and it is really nice for everyone to get together.
Don’s Comments About Working with Brian: “Brian is what keeps me going
throughout the day. He is always cracking jokes and making me laugh. He is
my sounding board and my work-son.”
Brian’s Favorite Memory about Designetics: The Christmas parties are my
favorite, because they are things I would have never done in my life! For
example, the train ride and when we had mechanical bull riding. My favorite
Christmas party was when everyone went bowling.
Brian’s Comments about Working with Don: “Don is my work-dad and
always yells at me for my behavior. On a more serious note, we first met
when his kids were really young and my kids weren’t born yet. Seeing them
grow together has been pretty cool.”
