Last month, God gave us an incredible mission and an efficient way to fulfill this mission. I hope this year you are more aware of your assignment here on earth. This month, God is going to help us to understand more clearly in what way the Good News announces and demonstrates. I think this time; God is telling us that his kingdom is totally different from our world. We are going to hear during this month phrase that helps us to recognize what is the most important of God's values. Phrases like, "For behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last." "For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be." "Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth?" God's words were probably shocking to those who heard them, and so they should be for us as well. In today's Gospel, Jesus showed us the rich fool is a man who would likely be praised by this culture, and perhaps is some of the new churches. He was a wealthy man. That seems to speak well of him, especially in a time when men equate spirituality and success. Today, we call it the "prosperity gospel." Her was a man who had been able to curb his appetite, or so it seemed. Here was a man who is not described as spending his money on himself, but who had the discipline to save it, "for a rainy day," we might say. Here was a man who thought of the future and who prepared himself for it. Today's reading is warning us about greed, Jesus is telling us, "Take care to guard against all greed." We heard in the first reading from Ecclesiastes, "he must leave property. This also is vanity and a great misfortune. For what profit comes to man from all the toil and anxiety of heart with which he has labored under the sun? All his days of sorrow and grief are his occupation; even at night, his mind is not at rest. This also is vanity." I am very sure that most of you know now how much work you did in your life and how many times you were worried about things that now could be not so important in your life. The rich man's land, in the Gospel, has to produce abundantly, yet expresses no sense of gratitude to God or to the workers who have helped him plant and harvest this bumper crop. He is blind to the fact that his life is not his own to secure, that his life belongs to God, and that God can demand it back at any time. We are going to hear during this month about priorities. It is about who is truly God in our lives. It is about how we invest our lives and the gifts that God has given us. It is about how our lives are fundamentally associated: toward ourselves and our passing desires, or toward God and our neighbor, toward God's mission to bless and redeem the world. Fr. The Old Testament reading reminds us thatwe can spend our whole lives acquiringthings but, in the end, all of our possessionswill go to those who haven't worked for them. This sets us up for the Gospel reading, asJesus addresses a man who wants him tosettle a dispute about an inheritance. Asalways, Jesus turns the immediate issue into alesson about a greater truth.

Stewardship By the Book - Seeing Jesus transfigured made

Peter want to do something to mark the event. But the

voice from the cloud said clearly that the first task of those

who recognize Jesus as Lord is to listen to Jesus - and then

act!

Vocation View - Another sign of Vocation is that your heart

is more intent on things that are not of the earth. God is

everything : the only thing

Support Our Seminarians - The Annual Collection for the Seminarian Education Fund will take place this weekend in our parish. This is an invitation to actively participate in the education and formation of our future priests. Your donation provides tuition, room and board, insurance, a small stipend for our seminarians. Both prayers and financial support are needed and encouraged. You should be receiving a special mailing regarding the collection that includes a reply envelope to make your gift. If not, envelopes will be available next weekend or you can donate online by logging on to www.dioceseofgaylord.org, follow the “Make a Gift” link and select the Seminarian Education Fund.Family Perspective-by Bud Ozar - In today’s gospel Jesus

teaches us: “One’s life does not consist of possessions.” We

spend so much time working to obtain more stuff; we don’t

have time for the people in our lives. What is enough? Are

the words of Jesus, “You fool”, meant for us?

Stewardship Reflections - “Take care to guard against all

greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not

consist of possessions.” LUKE 12:15

The Gospel message today is contrary to our modern

culture where advertising continually tries to convince us

that our value lies in the things we possess. Jesus showed

us that our true value lies in the way we live our lives. He

challenges us to not hoard material possessions, but rather

to live a grateful and generous lifestyle and become more

“other-centered” and less “self-centered.”

Promise to Protect; Pledge to Heal - In an effort to

protect all children and to promote healing, the Diocese of

Gaylord encourages victims of child abuse or neglect to

report the matter. In fact, many professionals are required

by Michigan State law to report suspected abuse or neglect

of a child or minor. Individuals should contact their local

office of the Department of Human Services. If an

allegation involves sexual misconduct of a minor by clergy

or any employee of the Diocese of Gaylord, even if it is in

the past, individuals may also contact Larry LaCross at

989.705.9010.
