That was the year this team of young women won the Brockville City League Softball Championships. Some of the same players are in this picture taken the following year. As you can see, they were coached by a young Ray McClure, now well-known in Brockville, and were assisted by his younger brother, Ian, as batboy. The ladies league had been formed three years earlier, and in 1945 consisted of Phillips Local 510, sponsored by the Electrical Workers Union at the Phillips plant, the Stetson Hat Works team, one representing the Glube’s store and a team from Prescott.
