HISTORY OF SOFTBALL Chicago Illinois

- the first version was invented on Thanksgiving Day 1887 by George Hancock

Farragut Boat Club- the game was first played

Lewis Rober, Sr. - the one who organized outdoor

games as exercise for firefighter, and the game was known as KITTEN BALL,PUMPKIN BALL, or DIAMOND BALL

Walter Hakanson

- the one who coined the name “SOFTBALL” dates back 1926 at a meeting of National Recreation Congress

United States and Canada

- the game had spread out across this two place. By 1930’s similar sports with different rules and names were being played all over this two states

ISF

- the international governing body of the softball, wherein rules and regulation was organized and implemented.

- the governing body of the softball in the Philippines.

-they are the one who implementing and organizing the softball game during the higher competition in the country.

SOFTBALL EQUIPMENTBall

- often covered in white or yellow leather in 2 pieces roughly the shape of figure 8

Bat

- used by the batter is made of metal, wood or composite materials. The size may vary.

- all defensive player wear fielding gloves made of leather or similar materials

Mittens

- a thickest gloves used by the catcher or a first baseman.

Uniforms

-each team wear distinctive uniforms and determine the whole team member

- used be well made and meet the safety standard to protect the batter's head from an impact. Once you have chosen a batting helmet, you may want to customize it and that's easier than you think.

Catcher’s Helmet

-used by the catcher to protect their heads from the wild ball.

MECHANICS OF THE GAME

There are 9 players on a softball team.

The playing field is divided into the infield and outfield

The lines between the bases are 60’ apart and when joined they form a “diamond”, inside the baseline is known as the infield

Outside the baseline but inside the playing field is called the outfield.

Any ball going outside the 1st or 3rd base line is a foul ball ( runners can not advance and the batter gets another try unless the ball was caught in the air, which translates to an out)

An official game is 7 innings (a inning is when both teams have had their turn to bat)
