Autoclaves

Our autoclaves are designed to sterilize equipment and supplies by subjecting them to high pressure saturated steam at 121 °C for around 15–20 minutes, depending on the size of the load and the contents. Autoclaving is the preferred method for sterilizing / decontaminating equipment, sterilizing media and for inactivating waste harbouring micro-organisms. Unlike chemical disinfection, where success is demonstrated by an acceptable reduction in viable micro-organisms, correct autoclaving will result in a 100% kill rate.

The temperature control is via a pressure controlling valve with auto cut-out. Also features an eight point lid locking device and condensing vacuum at the end of the sterilising period. A Sprout® Mini Centrifuge This compact mini-centrifuge is ideal for quick spin downs from tube walls and caps. Use to microfi lter cell separations and HPLC samples. Most spins last around 20 seconds, so Sprout is designed for easy repeat opening. Ergonomically designed lid fi ts the palm of the hand comfortably. Operation is extremely simple: load tubes, close lid and press on/off button. For repeated spins, simply open or close the lid to operate. Control System

The control system combines the advantage of two temperature ranges in one unit through the use of a simple high/low switch. Higher temperatures for oven or steriliser use on the high setting and standard incubator settings on the low range. All units are natural convection models, one is available with fan circulation and all units are heated by Incoloy sheathed elements.They also have a direct easy read thermostat and an independent overheat thermostat as a safety measure, both with calibrated scales and tamper proof dial locks. All models have two shelves.

Retro Ranger PSU This is the workhorse of the Unilab Retro range, offering continuously variable a.c. up to 15 volts, and d.c. up to 20 volts, at a combined current of up to 8 amps. This unit is ideal where high power is required, such as high-power quartz lamps or for powering simultaneous experiments.

The voltage is selected by a large knob on the front panel, with dual scale around the outside to indicate a.c. and d.c. voltage setting. It can be locked at a limit by way of an adjustable transparent Perspex disc around the control knob which is secured by a hex socket. An Allen key is provided for the teacher or technician to set the desired locks.

The supply offers simultaneous a.c. and d.c. output from dedicated pairs of shrouded 4mm sockets, and the shroud can be partially unscrewed for other types of connection, such as bare wires.

The unit has two in-built layers of protection. The fi rst is a thermal trip on the secondary circuit, with a reset button for when the problem load has been disconnected. The second is a 2A mains fuse, accessed from the front panel, on the primary circuit.

Signal Generator Section:

Sine, square, triangular and TTL waveforms available. Amplitude and frequency modulation. Instrument amplifi er for amplifi cation of signal generator output or external input. Continuously variable output, low and high impedance. High impedance output may be attenuated by a factor of 10 or 100 to provide fi ne control over low level outputs. Built-in speaker for audible frequency range.

Amplitude Modulation:

100% modulation is achieved by inputs between ±160mV, and the modulating frequency can be down to d.c.

Frequency Modulation:

In this mode, the frequency control is inoperative and the carrier frequency is automatically switched to approximately 6x the coarse range selected. A signal of ±5V swings the output frequency from 1x to 11x the selected coarse range. There is linear relationship between the modulating voltage applied and the frequency output.

Amplifi er Section:

Input from the signal generator or an external source is switch-selected with LED indication. Power output up to 5W, i.e. 5V rms (7V peak) into a 51 load, frequency response d.c. to 110kHz, 11 (high current loads) or 1001 output impedance, maximum gain 200. The low impedance output is protected and allows current up to 1A to be drawn by low resistance loads. This output may be short-circuited at any frequency without risk of damage. A Aquatron A4000 Water Still An electronically controlled water still that is capable of producing a high quality distillate. The still has a unique double pitch coil condenser which produces a low temperature distillate around 25-35°C, allowing immediate use. Features push button switches for ease of operation. A level control device automatically turns off the heater and water supply when the reservoir is full. The still has two safety cut-out devices for protection in the event of coolant or water feed failure. The long life heating element is sheathed in silica glass for maximum purity, to provide high quality pyrogen free output (conductivity less then 2µs/cm). It can be used with pre-treated water by using a water feed kit (optional extra). Cleaning is simple and can be carried out without dismantling any glassware. The still is easily installed and can be wall or bench mounted.

Drop lever pattern with standard 3.5mm bore and tamper proof concealed mechanism. Inlets are threaded in. BSP. Consumption 8.4 litres (0.3 cu. ft.) per minute at 200mm water gauge. These taps are designed to operate on natural/town gas mains supplies at pressures not exceeding 0.14kg cm2 (2 psi). On no account should they be used on high pressure systems.
