POST GRADUATE PROGRAMME IN PROJECT ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT

(PGP PEM)

INTRODUCTION The projects are the result of Industry and Society needs, this leads to the project business. Management of Engineering Projects is a key for project successes. Engineering excellence and innovation in the field of infrastructure, industrial, financial and service sector requires vital skills and knowledge of Project Engineering and Management Principles.

Completing the engineering project in a competitive environment needs specialised manpower. Project Engineers and Managers are required in large numbers. They should be well versed in principles of Project Management and System Engineering with multidisciplinary approach.

The industries like steel, oil and gas, petrochemical, power etc. need these professionals for their projects. The project management professionals are opted by EPC organisations and even the engineering consultants to complete the projects effectively. The professionals have equal opportunity in all engineering organisations.

The graduate engineers who are trained in specialised area such as mechanical, electrical, civil, chemical, petrochemical engineering and never get focused on multidisciplinary demands of modern projects and remain inadequate in their understanding of areas other than their own subject knowledge.

Project management organisation has to train engineers and managers by directly exposing them to Ongoing Project as on-the-job training. This training is inadequate without understanding the fundamentals of Project Engineering and Management principles. They practice various aspects of Project Engineering and Management, but leave a lot of gap in their understanding.

The Project Engineering and Management course provides the solution to fresh engineers and experienced engineering professionals as a new career. The Project Engineering and Management is unique course and hardly any institute of repute offers similar course in India. The curriculum has been reviewed from time to time to incorporate the latest advancements in Construction, Real Estate, Infrastructure and Project (CRIP) industry and built a strong competence in diversified areas.

All students who successfully complete the programme are recruited by reputed Construction, Real Estate, Infrastructure and Project (CRIP) companies through the campus placements. Consulting Organisations and Companies from manufacturing / service sectors also visit the Campus for recruitment. OBJECTIVES The objective of the programme is to train the young and dynamic graduate engineers to develop them into mature and knowledgeable professional

project managers with the potential to manage large projects in any field in India or abroad, to shoulder responsibility in any functional capacity with some of the essential competencies, such as -

Sound knowledge of theory and practice of project management.

Proficiency in engineering and construction of projects in different sectors.

Skills in financial, marketing and human resource issues in the projects.

Techniques of dealing with quality, planning, software and IT systems.

The electives offered in the programme allow engineers from different disciplines to select special engineering and management subjects to enhance their subject expertise in tune with careers of their choice.

To undertake extensive studies in performance of completed projects, or those under execution and to share that learning with project management fraternity.

To create a unique identity and position for PGP PEM programme so that the top project consultants and contractors will employ NICMAR PGP PEM post graduates.

THE PROGRAMME This programme of studies builds upon the concepts and practices of Project Engineering and Management and combines subject knowledge with project practices.

The first year introduces various general management subjects to improve students understanding of key aspects in business management. This unfolds the basic phenomenon and relationships that characterise the changing world in which management practitioner must operate. At the same time, project related subjects are blended to link the theoretical studies to practical issues in project management.

During the second year, specialised areas of project management are introduced to develop in-depth knowledge of project management. This knowledge enhancement process is supplemented by exposure to elective subjects in the areas of Oil and Gas, Process Industry, Building Services, Piping Engineering, Power Plant Engineering, Telecom and many other areas.

Practical experience is also gained by students through study tours and summer training. Project based work under the supervision of internal and

external experts develop skills in scientific analysis of problems and report writing. Computer application skills and knowledge of quantitative methods creates an analytical edge for managerial decision making expected in the complex project management world. The students are trained on various softwares required for Project Management and Analysis.

DURATION AND ORGANISATION The programme duration is two years. It is organised into 7 trimesters with each trimester of approximately 13 weeks duration with suitable breaks. Each trimester has a mix of course subjects and practice workshops. In addition, the students are required to undergo a summer training for a period of 8-10 weeks with the industry to gain field experience. Students sponsored by their employers and those from abroad, can opt for summer training with their respective organisations / countries. The last three trimesters also offer many specialised elective subjects and project work.

ELIGIBILITY Candidates with a degree in Engineering from a recognised institution are eligible. Candidates seeking admission are required to secure minimum 50% aggregate marks at graduation level. Final year students can also apply.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE Selection of students is made by the Selection Committee. Admissions work is handled centrally at Pune Campus. Those interested in admission to the programme have to apply online, pay fees and upload documents through our website: www.nicmar.ac.in or direct link: http://admission.nicmar.ac.in or download the application form from website and send it to the Head, Admissions, NICMAR Pune, along with the application fee and required documents mentioned in the application form within the specified date. All enclosures must be submitted. Incomplete applications will not be considered. All applications for admission are scrutinised and eligibility is established on the basis of documents submitted. All eligible candidates will be invited to undergo the selection procedure, which comprises of Written Test, Group Discussion, Personal Interview and Rating of Application. The details are as follows:

ii. Group Discussion (GD) : 20 marks iii. Personal Interview (PI) : 30 marks iv. Rating of Application (RA) : 50 marks The common pool Merit List is drawn on the basis of performance in Written Test / Score, GD, PI and Rating of Application (RA). All competing candidates

appear in the Merit List in the order of their respective merit. Admission letters are issued in the serial order of the Merit List.

Candidate's preference of programme will be considered, but the allotment will be done at the sole discretion of the Admission Department. Candidates should appear for the selection procedure on the given date. They have to make their own travel and living arrangements during the selection process.

ADMISSION UNDER SPONSORED CATEGORY The Institute has the policy of admitting a limited number of students under sponsored category, not exceeding 5% of the total students admitted.

Candidates to be considered for admission under sponsored category must fulfil the following requirements:

1. Satisfy all the eligibility criteria for admission to the respective two-year full time Post Graduate Programmes of the Institute as announced in the admission advertisement.

2. Must have appeared for the admission process of the Institute including Written Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

3. On selection should be willing to pay tuition fee, which will be 50% higher than the regular tuition fee for the respective programme.

4. Must be willing to forego the on campus placement assistance both for summer as well as final placement.

5. Produce an undertaking, duly signed by the sponsoring individual / organisation as provided in Part III of the application form.

FEES AND PAYMENT SCHEDULE The details of total amount of fees payable for this programme over two years are given below. The security deposit (Rs. 3000/-) is refundable on completion of the programme (after adjustment of dues if any from the student). The tuition fee includes term registration fee and other charges: i.e., fees for computer workshop, construction practice workshop, managerial skills workshop, examinations, evaluation, project work and assessments, library and students welfare fund. The Institute provides a free group accident insurance and group mediclaim policy covers to all students for a period of 2 years.

The Schedule of Payment of Fees is given below: 1. At the time of admission a. Tuition Fee - Rs. 1,90,000 b. Admission Fee - Rs. 14,000 c. Service Tax on (a + b) - @ 12.36%* d. Security Deposit - Rs. 3,000

2. Within 7 days of the Rs.2,05,000+12.36%*ST commencement of Term III.

3. Within 7 days of the Rs.2,05,000+12.36%*ST commencement of Term V.

4. Within 7 days of the Rs.2,00,000+12.36%*ST commencement of Term VI.

Note: ST - Service Tax (Inclusive of cess) *The present rate of Service Tax (Inclusive of cess) is @12.36%. The Institute reserves the right to collect or reimburse the extra amount of Service Tax from the students in case the Government will increase / decrease the Service Tax rate in future.

The following conditions apply to payment of fees and other dues. i. Fees are payable by Demand Draft drawn in

favour of 'NICMAR SOPEM and payable at Pune. Cheques and cash will not be accepted.

ii. The fees and other dues payable at the time of admission would be mentioned in the Admission Letter.

iii. The fees are payable as per the schedule given, otherwise late fee will be applicable as follows:

Rs.100 for first seven days and thereafter, Rs. 250 per day of delay. Hostel and mess fees are additional. iv. The above fee includes the cost of two NICMAR

T-shirts, one tie and one student bag. Institute reserves the right to revise any / all of the components of above policy, including payment schedule and refund policy without prior notice. POLICY REGARDING CHANGE OF PROGRAMME AND REFUND OF FEE Students are discouraged from any change of programme or cancellation after they have been selected / admitted for a particular programme. 1. Policy for Change of Programme

Students may apply for the change of programme from a full time two year post graduate programme to another full time two year post graduate programme. The application of request for transfer is to be made one week before the commencement of classes. Students have to pay Rs. 5000 and Service Tax @12.36%* as transfer processing fee. All transfer request applications would be considered by the Admissions Department for final decision on transfer depending on the actual admissions in the concerned programmes, eligibility criteria and admission cut-off or merit in the concerned programme. Decision taken by the Admissions Department to transfer the candidate or reject the transfer application will be final and binding. Only one transfer request is permissible.

2. Policy for Cancellation of Admission and Refund of Fee The Institute has a policy of considering refund of full first installment of tuition fee paid by the student at the time of acceptance of offer of admission. All such requests must necessarily be received by the Head, Admissions under any circumstances not later than 5.00 p.m. on 06th June, 2014. All such requests in writing must be sent by hand / post / courier only and any request for refund by e-mail / telephone / fax, etc. if not accompanied by formal request in writing in hard copy format within the time stipulated above will not be considered.

No refund of fees will be admissible for any cancellation beyond this time limit. In case, the student applies for the above after 5.00 p.m. on 06th June, 2014, the Institute shall refund the Security Deposit of Rs. 3,000 only (after adjustment of dues if any from the student).

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE The Institute offers Merit Scholarships and NICMARs Excalibur Award, which are granted on the basis of academic performance of the candidate in each academic trimester. Companies that accept students for summer training generally offer allowances / stipends during training period. NICMARs Merit Scholarship Scheme These rules are framed to institute, operate and disburse scholarships for students of two year full time Post Graduate Programmes offered by NICMAR. Duration

: Trimester wise for all Academic Terms except summer training

: 10% students of each Post Graduate Programme of each campus, i.e. ACM, PEM, REUIM and IFDM Programmes

Criteria and Rules for Award of Scholarships i. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the

Trimester Performance Index (TPI) of the concerned trimester.

ii. A common pool of merit list will be prepared based on the TPI, of 10% students of all the two years full time post graduate programme of Pune, Hyderabad, Goa and Indore campuses. As indicated in the given table on the next page, top 03 senior students and top 03 junior students will get scholarship of Rs. 10,000/-, Rs. 9,000/- and Rs. 8,000 per month respectively from senior and junior batch students. From the remaining pool of merit list, next 02 students of PGP ACM of senior and 02 students of PGP ACM junior batch will get scholarship of Rs. 7,000/- per month. Next 02 PGP ACM students in the merit list of senior batch and 02 PGP ACM junior students will get scholarship of Rs. 6,000/- per month and so on. Similarly a remaining pool of merit list for the PGP PEM, REUIM and IFDM programme students scholarship will be awarded as in Table 1. All the remaining of the 10% students will be awarded scholarship of Rs. 2,750/- per month during that term.

iii. In case of any tie amongst candidates on same TPI, merit will be determined by Cumulative Performance Index (CPI). In case of tie again in CPI, student securing maximum numbers of grade AA followed by maximum number of grade AB will be given the preference. After that if once again there is a tie, then the scholarship amount will be spilt evenly amongst the concerned candidates.

iv. Award of scholarship will be decided after declaration of each Term End Examination results.

v. The scholarship will be paid after declaration of the same.

The awardees of the scholarship may be assigned academic work of such nature and duration as may be decided by the Heads / Deans of the concerned programme, keeping in mind the overall need to keep such assigned work to minimum level possible.

NICMARs Excalibur Award A special award has been introduced by the Institute to stimulate excellence and scholarship of the highest order among the student community of NICMAR. The award is titled Excalibur Award. It is awarded to the students securing the highest rank among all students of ACM (Pune, Hyderabad, Goa and Indore campuses), PEM, REUIM and IFDM programmes. The award is presented trimester wise and waives full tuition fee and hostel fee for the trimester in which the student has secured the highest rank.

Merit holders for Award of Scholarships and Excalibur Award should meet the following conditions. Breach of any one of the conditions shall make them liable to be disqualified for award of scholarship. i. The Awardee's attendance in any course of study

shall not be less than 80%. ii. The Awardee shall have no adverse comments /

grading on record from any teacher for any reason whatsoever.

iii. Any act of proven indiscipline shall make the Awardee liable to forfeiture of the Award.

iv. The decision of the Scholarship Committee shall be final and binding on all parties concerned, subject to the approval of Director General.

v. The Awardees shall maintain high standards in all conduct and behaviour and conform to the discipline of the Institute, as laid down in the Code of Conduct.

vi. The decision of the Dean of the concerned School in regard to the forfeiture / suspension of the Award in pursuance of conditions stated in (i) to (iii) above shall be final, subject to the approval of Director General. In case of any grievances, student may apply to the Director General. Such cases will be finalised by the Academic Council. No appeal will be allowed on the decision of the Academic Council.

Project Management Institutes (PMI) Scholarship: Name of Scholarship: 1. PMI, India, Project Management Extraordinaire

Merit Award 2. PMI, India, Project Management Merit Award

in Project Management. Year of Establishment: July, 2010. Objective: To recognise exceptional merit of NICMAR students studying in Full Time Programmes of the Institute, in the area of Project Management.

Frequency of Disbursement: Once in every academic year, awarded on commencement of the new academic year. The scholarship is currently available to be awarded for five successive years.

Nature: A cash award of Rs. 100,000/- for the top-ranking student (PMI, India, Project Management Extraordinaire Merit Award) and Rs. 25,000/- for the runner up (PMI, India, Project Management Merit

Award in Project Management), of PGP ACM / PEM / REUIM / IFDM programmes, in project management subjects.

Eligibility: Awarded to the student, studying in any of NICMARs two year Full Time Academic Programmes, securing the highest merit in project management subjects in the first three trimesters, across all campuses of NICMAR.

Description of Award: In recognition of a students academic excellence and commendable achievement in securing the highest merit in project management subjects, amongst all students in the Institute.

HOSTEL AND LIVING EXPENSES Hostel accommodation is available at Pune, Hyderabad, Goa and Indore campuses. Girl students granted admissions are housed separately. All students have to rigorously abide by the Code of Conduct issued by the Institute.

Pune campus has total 4 hostels, which all together provide 904 single occupancy rooms for boys and 194 shared occupancy for girl students.

Silver Jubilee Hostel (Boys): Single occupancy : Rs. 3,600 / month

Millennium Hostel:

Single occupancy For girls (if available) : Rs. 5,000 / month For boys : Rs. 3,600 / month Shared occupancy : Rs. 3,000 / month (only for girls students) Mess package charge is Rs. 150 per day / head. Package includes breakfast with tea, buffet lunch, evening snacks with tea and buffet dinner. The Institute mess facilities are run by the contractor hired by NICMAR under the supervision of the Manager, Premises and Services (P&S). The manager, according to the suggestion of Students Co-ordinator, prepares menu on weekly basis. Payment Schedule: Hostel and mess fees are payable term-wise within 7 days of the commencement of the term. In case of any delay, a late fine of Rs. 75/- per day will be payable for the first 7 days, after which, fine will be Rs.125/- per day. The hostel and mess fees once paid are non-refundable or non-transferable. Mess facility is mandatory for all students staying in NICMAR Hostels.

Typically, the total living expenses including hostel, mess and any other at Pune / Hyderabad / Goa / Indore campuses are approx. Rs.10,000/- per month.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS i. Course Work The course curriculum to be studied is divided in

7 trimesters. In each trimester there are theory subjects and workshop practices to get hands on training. The trimester-wise distribution of courses and workshops is indicated in Table 2.

Typically, a full course of 7 credits involves 27 hours of teaching in 20 sessions and self-study by a student. There would also be individual assignments, group presentations and class tests in addition, as decided by the faculty.

ii. Computer Practice Workshop (CPW)

Computer Practice Workshop integrates information technology and software applications relevant to various business functions such as project management, estimation, contract management, risk management, statistical analysis, ERP and basic computer skills taught in class. The software include the software applications that are used in construction business worldwide. They are MSP and P6 for project planning, scheduling, monitoring and control. CANDY and Excel for estimating, planning and project valuation, Microsoft Dynamics for ERP solution, SPSS and Stat Tool for statistical data analysis, @Risk for risk management, Tally for accounting. The students are trained on these packages during various trimesters with hands on practice on computers. Skilful and creative application of tools of information technology in individuals profession is the trademark of a NICMAR graduate.

iii. Managerial Skills Workshop (MSW)

Managerial Skills Workshops are an important part of the curriculum. These workshops equip the students with the managerial communication, presentation, team management, career management and other soft skills. They give hands-on-experience in the following skills: - Managerial Communication and People

Skills. - Listening Skills, Business Presentations,

Verbal, Non-verbal and Written Communication.

- Cross-Cultural Communication and Communication at Work.

- Interview Skills, Group Discussion and Career Development Skills.

- Team Management, Negotiation, Problem Solving, and other soft skills.

Group assignments, audio-visual presentations, role-plays, group discussions, Language Lab sessions and case studies are some of the indicators of the pedagogy of Managerial Skills Workshops. Students are given training in Business English through Orell Digital Language Lab which is an interactive language learning software. It assists students in learning communication with the help of some advanced tools and enables them to communicate confidently in their respective professions.

iv. Basic Competency Workshop

This workshop aims at updating the basic engineering / architectural subject already undergone by students at under graduate level. It is a refresher course taken through two

trimesters, where students are required to do self study and undergo objective test on selective subjects every trimester. Discussions are held to clear the doubts. Emphasis on the requirements of understanding the subject and their applicability is also given during the discussions. The students are also asked to give a technical presentation on topic of their choice.

v. Project Engineering Workshop

Project Engineering Workshop is an important part of the curriculum. It gives hands-on experience in the following skills required of a project engineer.

- Construction Skills - Fabrication Skills - Plant and Equipment Erection Skills - Plant and Equipment Installation Skills - Electrical and Instrumentation Installation

Students will be spending 20 sessions in term working with their own hands to get a feel of different practices in construction, erection and commissioning of process plants under supervision and guidance of expert trainers and site engineers. Students must equip themselves with safety helmets, boots and goggles at their own cost. They also have to organise for the transportation to the project sites. The Institute organises site visits to various construction and infrastructure development sites of professional interest of a selected centre. Attendance on these tours / visits is compulsory. The students are encouraged to take initiative in organising these tours. Students pay for their expenses on the tours.

vi. Tendering, Bidding and Contracting Workshop

The objective of the workshop is to make the students undertake measurement, costing and estimating, prepare bill of quantities, tender documents and do quality inspections and learn the application of various standards to construction processes. The students may be made to role-play as contactors, clients and consultants and understand the intricate details of preparation of tenders and managing of contracts.

vii. Project Work

The Project Work is an independent qualifying requirement and also carries weightage in the final evaluation. Students should select a topic for project work on a live problem in the industry or a macro-issue having a bearing on performance of the industry. The topic should be researchable in the given time and should be approved by the Institute. It should involve scientific design of a study, collection and analysis of data and preparing a project work in report format, in acceptable academic style.

The students are allotted a project guide by the Institute. If the student elects to have a guide from outside, the Institute will nominate one of the faculty members as a internal guide.

Students are permitted to take up group projects wherever found suitable and approved by the Institute. Evaluation is done by external examiners.

viii. Summer Training

As part of the curriculum, each student has to undergo a supervised field training with a reputed project construction / consulting firm for 8 to10 weeks period. During this period they have to learn the project management practices followed at project site including planning, execution, progress assessment, site management, reporting etc. The training being on the job, the student is also expected to perform certain regular duties on the project as may be felt fit by the respective organisation.

Organisations for practical training are carefully selected from among the reputed firms. The host organisation is expected to nominate a senior officer to supervise the students work, be willing to pay a stipend to the student and hopefully may offer employment to the student trained by it. Essentially, the Institute looks for meaningful and supervised work experience for the student. Sponsored students may be allowed to do training in their own organisations. Students are expected to assist the Institute in arranging their Summer Training.

STUDENTS DEVELOPMENT

NICMAR has a number of schemes in place to provide full or partial financial support to a variety of student activities. The Institute strongly believes that these activities contribute to the all round development of the student personality.

PEDAGOGY

NICMAR believes that the method of instruction for maximising learning would vary from course to course, and therefore, uses a host of pedagogic approaches in different courses such as case studies, lectures, group and individual exercises, class projects and simulation of business environment.

DISCIPLINE AND CODE OF CONDUCT

Students shall be courteous and formal in conduct with faculty and staff at all times. Also, they are expected to extend courtesies to all the management, faculty, administrative and support staff, failing which an appropriate disciplinary action shall be taken against the erring student. A Code of Conduct for the students is issued at the time of admission. It is mandatory for all students to follow it.

ASSESSMENT

Assessment of students performance is done as per Guidelines of Academic Administration available in a printed booklet on request.

The NICMAR learning system de-emphasises lecturing and examination system by balancing classroom learning and practical work in overall assessment. Coursework comprises 81.74% of total inputs while the practice workshops, summer training and the project work cover the rest. Overall, assessment by examinations has 57.22% weightage and the rest of 42.78% is through concurrent internal or joint assessment.

i. Weightages

The curriculum of PEM comprises course work, practice workshops, summer training and project work. The relative weightage of each component in the total package of 304 credit points is shown below:

Thirty percent of the course work and all practice workshops are subject to Concurrent Internal Assessment (CIA). Examinations are held for 70% of course work.

Project work and summer training are assessed jointly by project guide and external experts. The relative weightages of different methods of assessment are as under:

ii. Examinations

The Term-end examination is of 70 marks (each paper) and will be of 2.5 hour duration. The Term-end examination may have the following components.

a. Essay type questions. b. Structured or short answer questions. c. Questions involving computations and

derivations. d. Case analysis.

It is to be noted that the Term-end examination covers the entire syllabus of the courses taught

during the term and also any additional information given by the teacher during lectures.

iii. Concurrent Internal Assessment

Concurrent Internal Assessment (CIA) is for 30% marks out of a total of 100 allotted for each course. The student must secure a minimum of 40 marks in a course for passing.

The Concurrent Internal Assessment is done on a continuous basis by the teacher of the course concerned. The internal assessment can be based on one or a combination of the following: (a) a mid-term examination, (b) an essay type assignment on a topic assigned by the course teacher, (c) the students overall performance in the class, and (d) a presentation in the class on a selected and relevant topic.

iv. Joint Assessment

Students Project Works are subject to Joint Assessment by the Project Guide and an External Expert appointed for the purpose. The assessment may constitute a Viva Voce. A panel of experts is especially constituted for the purpose.

The internship is also assessed jointly by the company supervisor of the student and a faculty member, both nominated during the summer training.

v. Failure Cases

NICMARs Post Graduate Programmes are high profile programmes to which students of a high calibre are admitted through a process of rigorous evaluation of their competence. It is, therefore, expected that no student will fail in any subject or will delay submission of project work without valid reasons.

However, if any student fails to obtain minimum passing marks in any subject, his / her overall result will be withheld. Such a student will have to take examination by paying re-exam fees of Rs. 2000/- per subject along with the next trimester and obtain the minimum passing marks, so as to enable him / her to qualify in the course.

Similarly, non-submission of project work on time is viewed with displeasure. A candidate is not considered to have completed the programme unless he / she submits the project work, is adjudged as satisfactory, and given the ratings by the Examiner/s appointed for the purpose.

If the students wish to get their examination paper/s re-evaluated then this can be done on payment of re-evaluation fees of Rs. 1000 per paper.

vi. Grading System

Evaluation will be on a trimester basis. At the end of every trimester, a Trimester Performance Index (TPI) and Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) will be calculated. Student should clear all subjects for passing the programme.

Students who have been assessed and have met all the academic requirements successfully are eligible to receive their PGP certificates.

In order to qualify for the award, the student should meet successfully the following requirements:

i. Minimum prescribed attendance of 80% in each course.

ii. Minimum prescribed grades in each course.

iii. Satisfactory completion of all practice workshops.

iv. Satisfactory completion of summer training.

v. Satisfactory project work.

vi. No dues payable certificate from the Institute concerned.

PUNE CAMPUS

NICMAR Pune Campus is situated at Balewadi, 14 kilometres away from the Pune Central Railway

Station and 7 kilometres from Pune University and the Mumbai - Bangalore expressway runs along the Institute. It has over 3,77,676 square feet built up area on 11 acre plot of land built using the latest materials and technologies and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities blending harmoniously with the landscaped greenery all around.

Physical infrastructure of the campus includes work area for 1098 students, 70 faculty members and scholars and 150 support staff (classrooms, seminar rooms, tutorial rooms, auditorium hall, amphitheatre, faculty cabins, offices, modern library, stack areas, reference section, documentation centre, scholars cabins, computerised catalogues, inter-campus online library, computer centres for 301 persons each to work at a time, 24 hrs. internet and e-mail, a guest house, a modern and well appointed kitchen with capacity to serve 1098 meals per day, students and faculty dining halls). Other facilities include xerox centre, solar water heating, sewage treatment plant, lift facility at Silver Jubilee Hostel and Millennium Hostel, cafeteria, generator backup to all the buildings, doctor, medical inspection room, first-aid kits, community hall, indoor and outdoor recreation infrastructure, i.e., foot ball ground, basket ball court, tennis court, badminton court (2), volley ball court (2), gymnasium, recreation hall with table tennis, carrom boards, chess boards and T.V. with dish connection, students parking facility (two wheeler), stationery and supplies store and laundry facility.

All infrastructural and educational support services including faculty are shared together by Pune, Hyderabad, Goa and Indore campuses. Faculty is interchangeable.

The courses are taught by senior faculty members of the Institute, eminent practicing managers from leading construction agencies from all over the country and visiting experts from Indian and foreign universities and international agencies.

ii. Computer Centres

NICMAR campuses at Pune, Hyderabad, Goa and Indore maintain well-equipped and modern computer centres. Each computer centre has sufficient number of computers with leading construction business related application packages like Microsoft Project Management, Primavera, Candy for Project Management and BRIX for Contract Management and SPSS, QE Pro for Data Analysis and Estimation and leading ERP packages like Microsoft Dynamics. Palisade Decision Tools Suite Industrial Software like @ Risk, @ Evolver, @ Stat Tools, @ Top Rank, @ Neural Tools. An Advanced Digital Language Lab is available for students to get proficiency in English. Internet and E-mail facilities are available at all locations. Qualified and experienced staff, heads the computer centres and the centres are open from 9 A.M. to 6 P.M. The campuses of NICMAR at Pune,

iii. Libraries

All the campuses are equipped with a Library. The Pune Campus Library is the main library designed to support the students, faculty and research scholars. It is a specialised library in the area of Construction Management, Project Management, Real Estate Management and Infrastructure Development. In addition, the library provides knowledge resources in a variety of management and engineering subjects such as: Information Technology, Engineering, Social Sciences, Management, Architecture, Taxation, Law etc.

It holds a collection of more than 19000 Titles, comprising over 17000 Books, Periodicals, Standards, Cases, Bound Volumes of Periodicals, Thesis and Audio-Visual Materials. It also subscribes to electronic resources which include PROQUEST ABI Inform Complete (5000+ Titles), EBRARY - Business and Economics (Over 13,000 Titles) ASCE JOURNALS (34), ASCE PROCEEDINGS (25,000 + Conference / Proceeding Papers), SCIENCEDIRECT - Business Management and Accounting (108 Journals), SAGE JOURNALS (5) and Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) products including PROWESS, INDUSTRY OUTLOOK, ECONOMIC OUTLOOK and the CAPEX.

iv. Internet and E-mail

All information of NICMAR, i.e., its activities and programmes are provided on NICMAR website: www.nicmar.ac.in. Internet browsing service for 24X7 is provided to students at all campuses. Each student is provided with the Institutes E-mail ID for academic communications. The campus at Pune is completely Wi-Fi and has Internet connections of bandwidth of 10 Mbps, 3.5 Mbps and 4 Mbps.

v. Classrooms

NICMAR has large capacity classrooms well equipped with public address system, LCD

projectors, internet connections and air-conditioners.

vi. Extra-curricular Activities

NICMAR supports and encourages extra-curricular activities of the students. Some of the important activities are mentioned below:

- Well-equipped facilities exist for indoor and outdoor sports such as, Badminton, Table Tennis, Basketball, Football etc. Facilities for watching TV, Listening Music and for general reading are available.

- Well-equipped gymnasium facility both for girls and boys, assisted by qualified sports supervisor for their workouts at Pune campus.

- At Pune, the international sports stadium is just across the road from campus and students can access swimming pools, gymnasia, field tracks and other facilities. Hyderabad campus students use the facilities of the National Academy of Construction like construction practice workshop, auditorium for the cultural events.

- Students are encouraged to participate in the socio-cultural and sports activities and in inter-collegiate competitions.

- Various techno-cultural inter college and intra college events like Udbhav, Chakravyuha, Technikallah etc. are organised for development of extra-curricular skills of students.

- Students also bring out in-house magazines, newsletters and similar publications.

- Students actively plan and participate in various cultural events and festivals.

- All students at NICMAR are expected to serve in either one of the community programmes related to the following categories; Orphans, Underprivileged or Senior citizens.
