This is our 16th year of providing food, clothing and shelter to our less fortunate brothers and sis-ters in the East San Gabriel Valley during the cold winter (February 2 – 15, 2015). As in the past, we need your help and support by providing us with the following: • Gently Used Clothing – long sleeve shirts, sweatshirts,

jackets, coats, pants, beanies, scarves, shoes( work boots & rubber shoes)

• New undergarments – boxers or briefs, under shirts, pant-ies, bras, and socks

• Hygiene – toothpaste, shampoo, hand/body lotion (trial sizes preferred) , toothbrushes, combs/hair brushes, femi-nine hygiene products, wipes, hand sanitizer, etc.

DICIEMBRE 2014 Navidad, esperanza para la humanidad. Para que el Nacimiento del Redentor traiga paz y esperanza a todos los hombres de buena voluntad .

Padres de familia. Para que los padres sean auténticos evangelizadores, transmitiendo a sus hijos el don precioso de la fe.

MORE THAN DISCIPLES

Each of today’s four scriptural roles—disciple, prophet, apostle, herald—forms a facet of our life in Christ as we live it day by day. Isaiah tells us that a prophet is anointed, as we were anointed at our baptism in water and the Spirit, to bring glad tidings and to promote God’s reign of healing, justice, and peace. An apostle, like Paul, is one who is “sent.” Each of us, in his or her own way, is sent by Christ to be a voice of rejoicing, to encourage prophetic voices in the world, and to make sure that the work of the Spirit thrives. John the Baptist shows us the job of the her-ald, making the Lord’s way straight, announcing the com-ing of the Light of the world. Today we also hear from Mary, model disciple. Her song, the Magnificat, shows us the world we must believe in and work for: one in which God is praised, where God’s favor is bestowed on the humble, where the hungry are filled and the rich are sent away empty, a world that continues to know and rejoice in the mercy of God that lasts for all ages. MÁS QUE DISCÍPULOS Cada uno de los cuatro roles en las Escrituras de hoy —discípulo, profeta, apóstol, testigo— forma una faceta de la vida en Cristo que vivimos día a día. Isaías nos dice que el profeta es ungido, tal como fuimos ungidos en el Bautismo con agua y con el Espíritu, para traer la Buena Nueva y promover el Reino de Dios, un reino de salvación, justicia y paz. El apóstol, como Pablo, es un “enviado”. Cada uno de nosotros, a su manera, es enviado por Cristo a ser una voz de alegría, a animar las voces proféticas en el mundo y asegurar que prospere la obra del Espíritu. Juan Bautista nos muestra la labor del testigo, enderezando el camino del Señor, anunciando la venida de la Luz del Mundo. Hoy escuchamos también a María, discípulo modelo. Su canto, el “Magnificat”, nos muestra el mundo en que debemos creer y por el cual laborar: uno en donde Dios sea alabado, donde el favor de Dios se derrama sobre los humildes, donde los hambrientos quedan repletos y los ricos se despiden vacíos, un mundo que continúa conociendo y celebrando la misericordia de Dios que perdura por todos los siglos.

Shopping mall safety tips

It’s easy for kids to get sidetracked with all the sights, sounds, and smells surrounding us at holiday time. It is especially important to monitor your children when tak-ing them through the mall during the Christmas season.

If children become separated from you, teach them to look for a “safe stranger” who can help them. For example, a mom with kids or the cash register person can help a child who is lost. Avoid telling children to go to the “manager.” Any adult in a suit, who looks important, can look like the manager to a child. Children must be told never to leave the mall or store to go looking for you in the parking lot. Let them know that you would never go outside or leave until you are reunited -- no matter what anyone else tells them
