Overview of Heredity
• Definition: “The transmission of genetic characters from parents to offspring: it is dependent upon the segregation and recombination of genes during meiosis and fertilization and results in the genesis of a new individual similar to others of its kind but exhibiting certain variations resulting from the particular mix of genes and their interactions with the environment.”
• Rating of Control: 0 out of 10• Selling Point: Heredity is something that is completely
out of the hands of a person. Traits are passed down through parents, which leads to certain needs and requirements. This could lead to smoking, drinking, etc.

associated with obesity (the FTO gene) are, on average, heavier than those carrying two copies of the protective version.
Citation : http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/09/120911200520.htm

illness as compared to a 1% chance for the general population (Relatives of the patient)
Citation : www.livestrong.com/article/5255-need-genetic-mental-disorders/
Example: Addiction• Stat: Addiction is due 50 percent to genetic predisposition and 50
percent to poor coping skills. This has been confirmed by many medical studies. If the parent has a drug or alcohol addiction, the child had an 8 times greater chance of developing an addiction.
