Glendale, Arizona Fire Department | Performance Report 2012
To the Mayor, City Council,City Manager & the Citizens of Glendale
On behalf of the fire department, I am pleased to present our 2012
Annual Report. This centennial issue marks the 12th year for this
publication. It continues to chronicle our accomplishments as we embark
on our second hundred years of service.
The year began with our accreditation site visit where a team of peer
reviewers performed a comprehensive analysis of our entire operation,
confirming our effectiveness and efficiency. As a result, the department
was awarded its 3rd consecutive accreditation through the Commission
on Fire Accreditation International. This is a coveted endorsement in the
fire service industry and we dedicate ourselves to continuing this tradition
of excellence for years to come.
The department was busier than ever in 2012, as the total number of
emergencies in Glendale rose by nearly 5% over last year. Twenty-four
percent of all incidents occurred at night, between the hours of 10:00 p.m.
and 7:00 a.m. A benchmark study conducted among thirteen major Arizona
fire departments ranks Glendale number one in the ratio of incidents per
firefighter. In fact, four of our paramedic engine companies averaged at
least eight incidents per shift, with one exceptionally busy company
averaging more than ten per shift.
We continue to strive for excellence in all of our services and appreciate
your faithful support of our mission to protect the lives and property of
the citizens of Glendale.
