2 TV/Video Upgrade Kit
Purpose: This document describes the installationprocedure of an upgrade package for someMacintosh models. The upgrade consists of thevideo input card, a TV tuner card, and an external
video connector. These components provide thecapability to view videotapes and TV broadcastson the computer.
Parts: The parts you need to install the TV/video systemare obtained from the kit for the Apple TV/VideoSystem (part no. 602-1173-A). These are: video input card

If your computer did not come with the externalvideo connector, you can get this part from thekit for the Apple External Video System(part no. 5). This system includes:
external video connector metal bracket 2 jacknuts
Tools: small Phillips screwdriverpair of pliers
Special Procedures: The boards are sensitive to damage fromelectrostatic discharge (ESD). Follow ESDprotocols. Do not unwrap the boards until youare ready to install them. Handle the boards onlyby the edges.

1. Remove:all cables from
the rear of thecomputer exceptthe power cord.
the 2 retainerscrews.
the rear panel by
pulling gently onthe latch keys
under the case.
2. Pull down the wire
handle on the rearof the logic board.
Use the handle toslide the logicboard out of thecomputer.

3. Locate the ribboncable under the
logic board tray,and attach it to theconnector on theTV tuner card.
4. Slide the TV tuner
card into thechannel under the
logic board tray.Check that thenotches point up.

5. Install anattachment screw
to secure the TVtuner card.
6. Punch out the plug
on the rear panelto clear the port
access hole for theTV tuner.

7. Remove the plastic
access cover.Compress the tabsand pull it fromthe metal retainer.
8. Remove the metalretainer.

9. Insert the newmetal bracket.Check that thebracket engagesthe two hooks.
10. Connect the smallcard on the end of
the external video
connector to themonitor-out sloton the logicboard.
11. Attach the videoconnector to the
metal bracket andsecure it with twojacknuts.

13. Remove the videoinput cover fromthe rear plate of
the logic board toclear the port
access hole.
12. Attach the plasticaccess cover.
Check that thevideo connectorprotrudesthrough theopening.

14. Connect the videoinput card to the
logic board.
15. Secure the video
card to the rearplate using a self-
tapping screw. Donot over-tighten.

Reset button
16. Insert the logicboard into thechannel but donot yet install it allthe way.
17. Press the red reset
button beforesliding the logicboard back intothe computer.
18. Swing the wire
handle up to thestorage position.

19. Install the rear panel and the retainer screws.
20. Start the computer.
21. Check the date and time. If necessary, open the Control Panels toset the current date and time.
22. Insert the Video Software Controller diskette.
23. Launch the Installer application on the diskette.
24. When the Installer is completed, restart the computer.
25. Keep the remaining materials from the installation kits (remotecontrol, software diskettes, publications).
