The role of Information and Communication Technology to develop the Eco-Cultural Systems.

1. I&CT evolution in business and social organisation: overview from 1965 to 2010…
2. How we can design the Eco-Cultural Systems…
3. How we can develop the Eco-Cultural Systems.

- A/V rec- walkman
- CD, DVD
The ‘space’ dimension can be defined as a mix of following factors:
1. Number of HW e SW delivered Objects;2. Number of ICT Applications in different
knowledge scopes;3. Number of I&CT Users;4. The frequency of I&CT tools used by people.
(Italian timing… ;)
- Mainframe- Automation- Specific and vertical solutions
- I. E. - ERP- Networking- Open Systems- Client/Server- Websites
- PLM- DWH- Business Intelligence- Broadband- ICT outsourcing
- e-commerce- Remote banking- Web applications
- Business Network- Social Network- Multimedia- Smartphone- Wireless
- UGC- Web services- Cloud Computing

The I&CT evolution makes ‘fuzzy’ boundaries…
• Starting from previous diagram, we can note in the same time are changed also the relations between:- Process and technologies,- Organization and individuals,- People and communication style.
• Art ans Science, Theories and Practice have been influenced each other: to understand their evolution, we have to use an holistic approach.
• All of us can think about how much is changed not only our own relationship with technology, but also with people, institutions, environment and ourselves.
4
5
Do we have to define another reference systems to analyze the change complexity?
• The Culture is a Renewable Common, expanding itself in time and space dimensions.
• As our genetic heritage contains information about our physiological development, so as our cultural heritage contains information about our knowledge development.
• In this environment, the Strategic Intelligence is our ability to assimilate and adapt the principles and models in the Governance of Cultural Commons.

The Eco-Coltural Systems
• Imagine that human culture is an enormous channelization of many space and time flows.
• This pictures shows a simple graphical representation with a single spatial dimension.

The Eco-Cultural Systems
• If we enlarge the image, it could also appear like a blood vessel, in which flows other small vessels that modify / adapt their size and direction in light of internal or external disturbances to the system.
• If we look frontally at each single slide, we see that the tube in turn contains other small tubes, each of which defines a “Cultural Dimension”. The culture uses the Recursion to permeate itself rapidly (see Theory of Complexity) .
• The “section of the cultural systems” S0” at the moment T0 = init time: the cultural dimensions here do not interact very well among themselves: this is much distance between one dimension and another.

The Eco-Cultural Systems
• That which is necessary to do is bridge as much as possible the “empty” spaces. The improvement occurs in at least Two complementary directions:– cognitive gap tends to bridge (S1):
– cognitive system tends to amplify (S2):

Grafts for the reaction.
Expected reactions to be facilitated.
Enlargement of cultural dimensions.

ECS: from Model to Prototypes
• We can consider that the constitutive elements of our reference system are:– home (family life, interests,
etc…)
– workplace (institution, SME, agriculture, etc…)
– school (university, high school, etc…)
– natural resources (forests, water, raw materials, etc…)
– people.
Let’s shift now to the level of Reality (Practice) to build the cultural projects.
11
Case of Study: Eco-Cultural Projects
• Call to Change is a business project that aims to propose and implement cultural transformations’ projects.
• Call to Change has two possible “memetic dimensions”:– the theoretical dimension for defining organizational
models adapted to redesign ecosystems (think global)
– the practical dimension for the application, observation and “enhancement” of the organizational models towards the prototyping in the field (act local).

Call to Change - activities
• Eco-Cultural Systems Methodology, to design and develop cultural transformations. Mr. Pascal Jouxtel, member of Management Innovation eXchange and President of “Société Memetique Francaise”, is developing this methodology from memetics perspective.
• Education Programme for schools, is dedicated to students 10-18 years old, their parents and their instructors. The scope is shows the impact of I&CT tools in social and personal relations and how we can use them to Change our approach to the Knowledge.

Call to Change - activities
• Progetto eXtra, this cultural project provides: courses of Italian language and culture for foreign, social information and services to individuals and families, cultural events. Born in 2005, involving about 300 people, proved very successful results. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Progetto-eXtra/184397234931962?sk=wall.
• Integration Project, is the evolution of “Progetto eXtra”, that will involved local admin, consulates and embassies, Small and Medium Enterprises, middle and high schools. The details of this prototype are already defined in a project brief. We are here in search of funds, a scientific partner and the Project Assurance services.

• Facebook International Community: Call to Change FB Page is born in 2010, Oct. More than 250 persons from more than 30 countries share and discuss about theories and practices, ideas and examples about Change and Innovation:http://www.facebook.com/pages/Call-to-Change/159881987362799?ref=ts
• Education & Practices for SME, this eco-cultural prototype involves SME, Accademia and Students. The details are defined in a project brief and outline budget, applying PRINCE2 methodology.

Strategic Intelligence
“What is most important is not to know how to search for a particular idea, but how to train
the mind to learn a method of producing any ideas and how to learn the principles that are the source of all ideas.”
(James Webb Young)
"What we love more is what we do not know. When we know we do not know something,
we try to find answers. But when we do not know, we have no commitment or opportunity
to remedy."(Bertrand Russel)
