Give your future a strong foundation. Study masonry at the new Providence Career and Technical High School What is Masonry? Masonry is the art and science of building with bricks, stone or concrete. It is one of the oldest and most important fields in the construction industry. Masons regularly use physics, math and science to build beautiful, strong buildings and structures. Is a career in masonry right for you? - Are you good at problem solving? - Do you like math, science and art? - Do you have a mechanical mind that is good at figuring out how things work? - Do you notice small details on buildings? - Do you like solving challenging problems using hands-on strategies? - Are you interested in having skills that can travel with you anywhere? - Do you think that construction should be both a trade and an art? If you answered “yes” to these questions, you should consider enrolling in the masonry program at the new Providence Career and Technical High School. This new school is one of New England’s finest technical high schools, offering students a blend of the best of a traditional high school and state-of-the-art training in a masonry lab. When you graduate from the masonry program, you will receive both a high school diploma and certifica- tion in masonry. During a typical day studying masonry, you will • learn exciting and useful masonry skills, including the use of power tools and heavy equip- ment, mixing mortar and concrete to meet a variety of building needs, building complex struc- tures with brick and stone, and reading blueprints • use the cutting-edge tools and equipment common in the masonry field • work with mentors and advisors who work in masonry • attend regular academic classes to prepare for college or technical school • enjoy Providence School District’s newest high school, including indoor athletic facilities, stu- dent lounges, a student-run restaurant, and a multimedia student auditorium • participate in student clubs and activities or play on athletic teams • use laptop computers and other new technology in Providence’s first completely wireless public high school • work toward industry-recognized certification in masonry For more information about our masonry program, and to learn how you can become part of one of the first classes to attend this exciting new high school, call 401-456-0686 or e-mail CTE@ ppsd.org, or see your guidance counselor.
