What is construction?

The construction industry is a fast-growing, highly-paid field that includes commercial and resi-dential construction; cabinetry; carpet, floor and tile installation; roofing; construction manage-ment and many other careers. Careers in construction can include working for large or small construction companies or owning your own construction company.

If you answered “yes” to these questions, you should consider enrolling in the construction tech-nology program at the new Providence Career and Technical High School.

This new school is one of New England’s finest technical high schools, offering students a blend of the best of a traditional high school and state-of-the-art training in a construction lab. When you graduate from the construction technology program, you will receive both a high school diploma and certification in construction technology.

During a typical day studying construction technology, you will:

• learn exciting and useful skills in construction technology, including the use of large and small power tools, woodworking, residential framing and construction, reading blueprints, and cabinetmaking

• learn to use exciting new tools and equipment commonly found on job sites and within the construction industry

• work with mentors and advisors from the construction industry• attend regular academic classes to prepare for college or technical school• enjoy Providence School District’s newest high school, including indoor athletic facilities, stu-

dent lounges, a student-run restaurant, and a multimedia student auditorium• participate in student clubs and activities or play on athletic teams• use laptop computers and other new technology in Providence’s first completely wireless
