The PCHS is excited about the results of their first Donation Drive! There was a great turn-out on Friday despite the rain! Several volunteers arrived to find people waiting with their donations in hand. The support that the PCHS receives from the community is instrumental in the work that we do. We received cat and dog food, cat litter, food bowls, brushes, bottles, formula, toys, trash bags, paper towels, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent and more. $ 39 of tickets for our drawing were sold and $ 177 in donations and memberships were taken in. Without community involvement and donations we would not be able to save as many animals as we do (80 already this year). The PCHS has no paid staff and a limited budget. Every little bit helps! After some intense deliberating, Alco, with the team of Lois Eye, Kerri Applequist and James Henkle, has been declared the winner of the competition! It was a close contest and the precedent has been set. Just wait ‘till next time! The PCHS would like to thank all the businesses that allowed us to come into their stores. It’s greatly appreciated!

B e s t C h a n c e D o g P r o g r a m In March, 2006, the Pawnee County Humane Society entered into an agreement with the Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility to place 5 dogs into training. The program is designed to utilize inmates as dog handlers. They provide basic socialization and obedience training to dogs that have been surrendered to the PCHS and helps them to become more adoptable. All of these dogs in training have been spayed or neutered and are current on vaccinations. These dogs are trained to kennel, are housebroken, and are socialized with humans as well as other dogs. Basic obedience training includes: heel on and off lead, sit, stay, down and come. The LCMHF also has a few of the agility/obstacle course stations in the exercise area where handlers can also work with and exercise the dogs. When the trained dogs are adopted, the PCHS will teach the new owner how to give the commands and what to expect from their trained dog.

LILLITH Three year old female German Shepherd. She

was a mess when she came in. Very underweight and her coat was in terrible

condition. After a trip to the vet and a few weeks of good food she was looking much

better. On 4-1 she entered the program. She should be ready for an adoptive home around the first of June. As of now, she is NOT good

with cats or livestock. Some of these behaviors will be worked on while she is in training, but she may not be able to go to a home with cats

or livestock. Adoption Fee $200

First Day 3-14-09

CATCH

Catch entered the training program on 4-8-09. He will be ready in about 8 weeks. Catch was dumped at the vet over a weekend. The staff

found him on Monday morning waiting for them in the parking lot. He is a 9 mo. old, 40 lb.

neutered male mix breed. Catch friendly boy that gets along with everyone and everything. Catch would really like a home where he could spend a lot of time with his people. Call 620-
