1 Introduction

1.1 Installation

Copy and use:

\\10.200.29.48\RNO Folder\tmp\UMTS\Software\PCHR

Raw PCHR files on the server:

\\10.200.29.48\RNO Folder\tmp\UMTS\=ALL RNC DATA\CHR

NOTE:

When working with PCHR, please remember to copy the raw compressed log files to your local

disk; do NOT operate in the on server folder.

1.2 Basic Work Flow

The PCHR analyzer is working as a filtering and viewer tool of CHR logs.

2 CS Call Drop Analysis

2.1 Set the Filter

Specify the RNC version, and the source file directory and target directory where you’d like to put

the extracted files.

2.1.1 Specify the Filter Conditions

The filtering setting can be setting at the left panel, by double click the key-segment:

For CS service, double click the “bit2CnDomian” and specify “0” in the dialog. “0” means CS

domain.

Add call-drop as condition: double click “bit2RabLossInd”, and specify “1” in the dialog, “1”

means ‘call drop’.

Then specify the cell(s) in concern:

Double click “RabBestCellId” and specify the cell(s) you want to check, if there’re more than one

cells, separate them with “;”.

Then launch the filtering.

The result records will be extracted to the target directory specified in earlier step.

2.2 View the result.

Open the extracted files and click on record display in right upper panel, the CHR log information

will show in the left panel.

Some important segments:

1, the 2nd ShoInfo, refers to the latest SHO actions done, including existed active set, and the RL(s)

under operation.

2, RrcRFInfo stores the latest received RF measurement reports from UE.

3, RrcRelSigInfo stores latest messages exchanged (with UE, NodeB, or CN)

4, RrcErrorCause is the exact error reason.

3 Extract PCHR Records for BPCR Analysis

- Filter out all cs call records.

- Extract key information segments into text files.

- Combine these files into one text file.

- Use perl to parse the text file and reassemble them into tabulated file, for access or excel

processing.

- Use access tool or excel tool to generate the reports.

3.1 CS call filtering

Luanch the filtering setting view, and described in earlier section.

Double clidk “>SingAccess>SigAccTit>SigCause” to lauch the filtering setting dialog, in the

dialog, select the option of “Sample” and then input “0;5;9” in the text input box.

Where 0, 5, 9 means:

0 --- “ORIG_CONVERSAT_CALL”

Then start fitlering, the results will be put into the folder you specified.

3.2 Text file extract

In this step, we extract usefull informations into text files.

Go to menu > process>’export CHR records’, lauch the dialog to specify the export settings.

2, check and select the information segmentation to be exported, including:

3, specify the source and target directory, and click ok.

The exported text files will be put into the target directory.

3.3 Combine Text Files

For later step process, the exported text files need to be merged into one file.

It can be done simply by the DOS command “type”:

e.g. the following command can combine all files under directory “d:\tmp\” into a single file “d:\

Please use folder’s names without “space” in the name! it could create error when DOS command

is running!

3.4 Parse Text File with Perl

The perl program and the script are on the server:

\\10.200.29.48\RNO Folder\tmp\pchr\perlBPCR

Normally, the perl command can be launched like:

“perl.exe script.pl input.txt output.txt”

Where “script.pl” stores the perl codes, and input.txt and output.txt are the files you’re working

with.

Please check the a.bat content to see how to do it.

3.5 Generate Report.

With the output of Perl parsing, you can import it into access and use the access tool coded by

Iskren to generate the reports automatically.

Using that tool generation of report for RRC fails reasons is possible. That report could be

generated for whole RNC, for list of cells (cluster) or for single cell.

Access tool can be downloaded from:

\\10.200.29.48\rno folder\UMTS RNO Team_I\Tools\

Copy and paste file on your local drive – no requirements for specific folder. Launch the program.

Import CHR data – press button and find location of the file which contains CHR data

(output file of Perl script post process)

Update subsystem info – In order to update info for cell location under RNC subsystem

CME files export are needed. Please ensure that you have latest CME export on your PC

Following window will appear after pressing of the button:

Click ‘Select All”. By default tool will try to locate files in the same folder that was use for

“3G parameter tool”. If you want to use different folder just click “Always prompt for new

location” and you can select new location of those files.

Enter list of cells (Not needed for RNC level analyses)

Close the window when list of cells is entered. Data was automatically stored in database.

Now you can run analyses. After finishing, window with results will appear. Click to select

the data and paste it in Excel.

Please bear in mind that process could be slow depending of volume of input data (for

example one week data for one RNC contains more than 1 million rows of data) and local PC

performance. In worst case analyses will be finished within few minutes!

Before to close access tool perform compact of the database – from Access menu->TOOLS-

>COMPACT AND REPAIR DATABASE
