Our aim, as always, is to open hearts and minds to the incomparable experience oflive music-making in surroundings whichenhance the listener’s appreciation andenjoyment. The Picture Gallery at PaxtonHouse uniquely provides such a setting.

the finest Palladian-style country houses in Britain, with interiorsby Robert Adam and an outstanding collection of Chippendalefurniture. Concerts are held in Robert Reid’s magnificent PictureGallery, added in 1814, which displays a large selection of paintingson permanent loan from the National Galleries of Scotland.

The House is open daily, between Easter and 31st October, from11am to 5pm (last guided tour 4pm); the shop, Hayloft Gallery,tearoom and gardens from 10am. Further information atwww.paxtonhouse.com

Our “Russian Genius” weekend opens with one ofthe 20th century’s most important piano cycles.Written in 1950-1 as a personal response to Stalin’srepressive regime, the work is modelled on J SBach’s Well-Tempered Clavier. It is played bySummer Music’s Artistic Director, who has beenhighly praised for his cycles of Beethoven andChopin. He gave the work’s first Glasgow performance in 2006.

Dedicated to the enfant terrible of Russian music,this short atmospheric concert combines Prokofiev’s impressionistic early piano cycle with his stark, moving violin sonata revealing the composer’s innate lyricism. A first appearance at Paxton by this gifted,young Armenian violinist.
