Extensive Reading Foundation Learner Literature Awards 2008 Do you want to encourage your learners to read extensively? How about taking part in the Extensive Reading Foundation Learner Literature Awards for 2008? An international jury selects the finalists in four categories and then you and your learners can vote online for favourites and comment on the books. Just like Dancing with the Stars, online voting is taken into account when selecting the winners in each category.
The finalists for the awards this year were announced on April 8 at the IATEFL conference in Exeter, UK. The winners will be announced in August – which means four months of reading and talking about books!
The Palmerston North City Library is displaying the finalists for this year and has arranged for lending copies to be available. Keep an eye on the library website - http://citylibrary.pncc.govt.nz/language-learner-literature-award.html - for promotional materials.

To celebrate the Central Library’s 12th anniversary in the new building, the City Library has launched a new form of recognition for outstanding support of the Public/City Library over many years. The initial group of recipients – 11 individuals, 2 couples and 2 families – received their certificates and associated gifts at a function on 28th May. The City Library, on behalf of the City Council, acknowledged the many and varied forms of support offered by the group – in all totally more than 400 years!
