Because your time is precious and limited as a student, we have brought our resources directly to you in this easy-to-follow guide.

� If applicable:

- Meet with Student Finance Advisor to discuss financial aid

- Meet with Credential Program Specialist to discuss credential information

- Submit Military Documents including Military Joint Services Transcripts (JST) and discuss military and VA programs with your Academic Advisor

- Complete placement exams

- Submit proof of U.S. residency to Academic Advisor

STAY ON TRACK � Review the Academic Advisement Report with your Academic Advisor to see if you have met all requirements for graduation

- An automated notification will appear in the Message Center of your SOAR Student Portal when evaluation is complete

- Once a degree evaluation is complete, and courses are scheduled, financial aid will be processed

� Ask your Academic Advisor about transition programs if you are an undergraduate student

� Check in with your Academic Advisor, Credential Program Specialist, and Student Finance Advisor as needed

FINISH STRONG � When you are within three classes of finishing your degree, and/or planning to attend commencement, complete your Application for Graduation and pay the graduation fee

STUDENT CHECKLIST As a student, you have a lot on your plate: orientation, buying books, and figuring out your class schedule. Getting acclimated to student life may take a bit of adjusting. We’ve compiled a checklist so that you won’t forget the important steps you need to take as a student from start to finish. Check off each milestone and track your progress. Before you know it, you’ll be sporting a new cap and gown at graduation.

FINANCIAL AID How am I going to pay for school? National University offers a variety of financial aid options to students who qualify. Grants, loans, and scholarships can help cover the cost of tuition, books, and living expenses. In fact, 66 percent of all National University students receive some form of financial assistance.

GETTING STARTED: APPLYING FOR A STUDENT LOAN

� Apply for a FAFSA pin at pin.ed.gov if you have never completed an online FAFSA

� Complete the FAFSA at fafsa.gov. Enter the NU school code 011460 within 30 days of enrollment

� Submit all transcripts for degree evaluation

� Build a schedule of classes with your Academic Advisor

WHAT’S NEXT? � Confirm National University received your FAFSA

� Complete Financial Aid checklist through SOAR Student Portal:

- Submit all financial aid documents required

� Wait for the review of financial aid documents by the financial aid processing center

� Wait for the processing of the financial aid award

FUTURE PLANNING � The application is available January 1

of each year and closes June 30 of the following year.

� If the undergraduate student is interested in applying for the CAL Grant, the FAFSA must be completed by March 2 to be considered.

� Contact financial aid whenever you make changes to your class schedule to determine how or if it will affect your financial aid

MILITARY AFFILIATED STUDENTS National University is committed to providing exceptional support for our Service Members throughout their educational journey. We offer various exclusive military support services, including discounted tuition rates, access to classes both online and on base, and Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) benefits.

In 2011, NU established the Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success (CEVSS) with faculty and staff dedicated to providing a higher quality of life through the coupling of pre-existing services and support with newly-created programming specifically developed to meet the needs of veteran students. GETTING STARTED: � Speak with your Academic Advisor to determine military

HERE IS A STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS TO ACCESS THE SOAR STUDENT PORTAL:

1. You will receive a Single Sign On welcome and activation e-mail with login information, including your user name and password.

2. Access the Single Sign On page at nu.okta.com.

3. Activate your account to gain access and click on the icon for the SOAR Student Portal.

HERE IS A STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS TO BUY BOOKS:

1. Access the Single Sign On page at nu.okta.com.

2. Click on the icon for the SOAR Student Portal.

3. Click on the My Class Schedule link under Quick Links for Students. Or, using the left hand menu, select Academics, then My Academics, and finally My Class Schedule.

4. Scroll through your class list and in the right-hand column of your class schedule there is a link to View/ Buy Books. Click this link to see what textbook(s) are required and then click Buy Books to be taken to the Text Direct website to purchase your textbook(s). Please note that the Buy Books icon is only active two weeks prior to the class start date.

Note: Pop-up blockers must be disabled in order to view textbooks information.

Click “View All” because there may be more than one textbook for a class.

ALTERNATIVES TO BUYING BOOKS AT NATIONAL UNIVERSITY

Sure, shiny new hardbacks are nice, but buying books can get expensive. If you are looking for a more economical way to obtain required books for school, please contact your academic advisor.

THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY LIBRARY While the National University library does not rent out textbooks to students, some of your classes may require you to read novels or research online journals. Check the online library to see if what you need is available for free. We also have partnerships with outside California universities to loan students books that they cannot find at our own library. So if we don’t have your book on hand, we can check other schools to see if they can accommodate you.

HERE IS A STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS TO ACCESS YOUR ONLINE COURSE:

1. You will receive a notification that you have a message in your Student Message Center previous to the start of your online course.

2. To access your Student Message Center, log in through the Single Sign On page at nu.okta.com.

3. Click on the icon for the SOAR Student Portal.

4. View your new message in the Student Message Center regarding your upcoming class and steps to access your course.

ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT REPORTThe Academic Advisement Report (AAR) is the official document that tracks your course requirements and progress towards program completion. Once you’ve successfully passed all of your courses on the AAR, you are eligible to graduate. Please contact your Academic Advisor if you are ready to review your AAR and ask how you can use your AAR to search for classes.

HERE IS A STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS TO ACCESS YOUR ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT REPORT THROUGH THE SOAR STUDENT PORTAL:

1. Access the Single Sign On page at nu.okta.com

2. Click on the icon for the SOAR Student Portal.

3. Select “Academics” on the left hand side

4. A new tab will open up titled “My Academics”

5. Under “My Academics,” you will select “Academic Advisement Report”

6. In the drop-down menus, you will first select the academic institution (National University) and report type (AAR for graduate/undergraduate)

7. Select “GO”

8. Click “Expand All”

Students are held liable for all National University policies and procedures. Below is a short list that will be helpful for new students. Please see the general catalog for a complete list.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

Students who have more than three absences and who are still enrolled as of midnight of the 21st day of the session will be issued a letter grade of “F” or “U” as appropriate for the grading criteria of the class.

DROP/REFUND DEADLINE

y Prior to midnight (PST) of the ninth (9th) day of the session: receive a 100 percent refund and no grade or notation will appear on student’s record.

y Prior to midnight (PST) of the tenth (10th) day of the session: receive a 50 percent refund and a “W” (Withdrawn) will appear on student’s record.

y After midnight (PST) of the tenth (10th) day of the session: receive no refund and a “W” (Withdrawn) will appear on student’s record.

y After midnight (PST) of the twenty-first (21st) day of the session: receive no refund and a grade of “F” or “U”, as appropriate for the course.

y Please refer to the Student Knowledge Base or the general catalog for exact drop dates. All requests to drop or withdraw must be received by your Advisor by the published deadlines.

TUITION DUE

y You will receive a statement for payment in the mail two weeks prior to the state of each course.

y If you are receiving financial aid, please be aware you may apply for tuition postponement.

SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS

y Undergraduate Students

- Must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0

- Minimum cumulative grade point average of a 2.0 within their major or core coursework to be eligible for graduation

y Graduate Students

- Must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0

- Minimum cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 within their core requirements to be eligible for graduation

LEAVE OF ABSENCE (LOA)

y Requests for LOA must be submitted prior to the last week of class in the term preceding the LOA request. Documentation must be provided to support the extenuating circumstances requiring the LOA. Requests must be submitted via e-form with the assistance of your admissions advisor.

y Questions regarding eligibility for LOA may be submitted to [email protected]

FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT (FERPA)

y Release of Records if you authorize a third party (friend or family member) to have viewing access or to call for information on your behalf. This does not grant third party access to request changes to your student record.

CIVIL RIGHTS

National University is committed to maintaining a working and learning environment in which students, faculty, and staff can develop intellectually, professionally, personally, and socially. Such an atmosphere must be free of intimidation, fear, coercion, and reprisal. The University prohibits discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, ethnic or national origin, religion, age, sex, color, physical or mental disability, marital, or veteran status under any program or activity offered under its control.

CODE OF CONDUCT

Student Discipline Students are expected to conduct themselves in a responsible manner that reflects ethics, honor and good citizenship. They are also expected to abide by the regulations of the University. It is the students’ responsibility to maintain academic honesty and integrity.

Code of Classroom Etiquette Freedom of speech and expression is valued in the academic setting. Students must strive to work together in a setting of civility, tolerance, and respect for each other.

Code of Conduct for Online Students Freedom of speech and expression is valued in the academic setting. Equally valued is the respect given to University computer systems and information technology.

Campus Security Report The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act requires the distribution of an annual security report to all current faculty, staff, and students and notice of its availability to prospective students, faculty and staff. The annual security report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings, or on property owned or controlled by National University, and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus or center. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security such as policies concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, and the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.

Crime statistics are reported to the U.S. Department of Education at ope.ed.gov/security, and on the University’s website at NU.edu/CampusSecurity.

When you are within three classes from finishing your degree or planning on attending National University’s annual Commencement exercises, you should submit the Application for Graduation . Conferral dates are every third Sunday of January, March, May, July, September, and November. To be eligible, coursework must be completed and grades posted prior to the conferral date.

HERE IS A STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS TO APPLY FOR GRADUATION:

1. Submit the Application for Graduation during the application period for your degree conferral date. Applications are available through your SOAR Student Portal.

2. Complete all academic requirements for your degree prior to the degree conferral date.

3. Settle all financial obligations, including payment of the graduation fee, prior to your conferral date.

COMMENCEMENT CEREMONYPARTICIPATING IN COMMENCEMENT

Commencement occurs once a year and is held in Southern California.
