    Hel lo PASS,

    I hope

    everyone is

    feeling

    rejuvenated

    and had a

    stellar

    holiday

    br eak. This

    past semester

    has been

    quite

    successfu l for

    PASS. As an

    organization, we?ve grown im mensely over

    these past few months. Fr iendships wer e

    for ged and mi lestones have been attained.

    Thr oughout the semester, PASS was able to

    recr uit many new members, continue to host

    our 3rd annual Philippine Culture Night, hold

    a ver y successfu l f undr aiser, per for m at the

    University of Michigan s Philippine Culture

    Night, as well as travel to the Filipino

    Americans Coming Together Confer ence at

    the Univer sity of Il lin ois at Urbana

    Champagne. Lastly, for our phi lanthr opy,

    PASS donated towards relief for Hur r icane

    Lando.

    I?m stoked for th is upcoming semester

    Plann ing for our 25th Anniversar y event has

    alr eady star ted. Chor eogr aphy for cultu ral

    and modern per formances is underway and

    Rice Bowl

    (PASS competes again st U of M in

    vari ous spor ts) is just ar ound the corn er. As

    for our

    25th Anniversary Event,

    not only do

    we want to celebr ate the great mi lestones of

    thi s organization, but also to acknow ledge all

    the past alum ni that have contr ibu ted to all

    the accompli shm ents over the year s. We

    know PASS alum ni are very busy and may

    need to tr avel, but i t w ould

    mean so much i f you could

    attend the event. We would

    be honor ed to hear your

    stor y an d see how PASS has

    memorable

    semester

    would have to

    go out to

    volunteer ing w ith a

    new M AFA school

    ,

    Wayne State Fi lSoc. Dur ing the w eekend

    of September 19, PASS and Fi lSoc

    volunteered at the Nyaka AIDS Or phan

    Project in East Lansing. The Nyaka AI DS

    Orphan Project has a mi ssion to br eak the

    cycle of pover ty i n Uganda by providi ng

    schools to orphans in r ur al areas who are

    affected by AIDS. Members fr om both

    orgs helped organi ze letters, sor t thr ough

    donati ons, and other miscell aneous jobs

    that helped thi s organi zation br ing

    awareness to the orphans in

    Nyaka. Volun teer in g wi th

    Fi lSoc br ought out a MAFA

    bond that wi ll never be

    for gotten. I?m super

    excited for thi s upcomin g

    semester w ith our main

    event being PASS?25th

    Anniversary in Apri l, but I

    ur ge you guys to come out to the

    PASS Penny

    Wars was a huge

    success in or der

    to raise money

    towar d PASS?s

    3rd annual

    Phi li ppine Cul tur e Night. Penny Wars in cluded

    four dares in whi ch the losing team would get

    their face pain ted, do a Fil ip in o dance call ed the

    Otso-Otso, cross the Red Cedar River, and eat a

    very special Halo Halo. The theme for Penny

    Wars was Pokmon, in which the teams woul d

    battle it out by donating either for their team or

    against another. We would l ike to thank our

    alumni for their generosity in donating towards

    Penny War s. Please check out the State News for

    a vi deo r ecap of PASS Penny War s.

    PASS members also pain ted the rock i n the month

    of October to celebrate Fil ipi no Amer ican History

    Month. We also par took in a chal lenge given to

    the Midw est Filipin o organizations known as

    MAFA Filabucketl ist. This challenge involved

    doin g cultur al dances, decorating your campus,

    and postin g interestin g ar ticles related to Fili pin o

    Ameri cans on the Midw est Association of Fili pin o

    Ameri cans Facebook page. We are happy to

    announce that PASS came in fi r st i n th is

    challenge.

    Filipino/Filipino

    American

    cultur e at

    Mi chigan State University and to help the Fil ipi no

    commun iti es through our phil anthropy. For the

    thir d annual Phil ippin e Cultur e Night, we were

    met w ith the season's fi r st snowfall , whi ch

    challenged our commit tee and attendees through

    the r ough weather. But special thanks to our

    fr iends, famil y, and the Mi dwest Associati on of

    Fili pino Amer ican members for tr avelin g near

    and far to attend, we w ere able to r aise money

    for the Phi li ppine Red Cross in aid of those

    affected by Typhoon Lando. Wi th cultur al

    perf ormances such as Maglalatik and Banga, a

    saxophone duet of the Phi li ppine anthem, a

    power ful spoken w ord about Fili pino Amer ican

    identi ty, and two rounds of authentic Fil ipi no

    food and dessert , everyone tr uly enjoyed the

    atmosphere

    and each

    other's

    company.

    In ear ly November, PASS

    attended the Filipino

    Americans Coming

    Together Conference wh ich is hosted by the

    University of I ll in ois at Urbana Champagne.

    PASS tr aveled w ith several cars whi ch

    accounted for about 30 members The

    conference all owed members to attend

    vari ous wor kshops which di scussed l i festyl e,

    cult ur e, stereotypes,

    organizations, and more.

    After attending the

    workshops, delegates

    gather ed for the vari ety show

    where fi lipi no inspir ed

    spoken wor d, music, cultur al

    dances, and moder n dances

    were per for med. The

    conference all owed members

    to expand their n etw ork w ith

    other universities, discuss

    dif fi cult cur rent events and

    issues, and even learn how to

    cook f il ip in o r ecipes. Also,

    many m embers were able to unite or r euni te

    w ith their MAFA famil ies. And as always, to

    conclude the weekend, PASS members went

    to the Chinatown Buf fet in order to feast and

    share their favori te moments fr om the tri p.

    This year, we

    ended up

    collaborating on

    a tailgate wi th

    the Korean Student Association and the

    brothers of Lambda Phi Epsil on Inc. Inst

    of havin g the typ ical tail gate food li ke ho

    dogs and bur ger s; thi s collabor ation tail g

    allowed us to enjoy a myr iad of di fferent

    Asian foods fr om all three organizations

    Ranging from Korean Bulgolgi to Fil ip in o

    barbeque skewers, it was defin i tely a fun

    time for ever yone that w as involved.

    As the 2015

    fal l semester

    comes to a

    close, PASS E-Board has a lot of

    GBM?s to r eflect on. Fir stl y, we

    kicked off the year w ith the

    theme of ?Kamusta? where we

    island

    hopped

    around the

    Phi li ppines and

    had traditi onal

    Filipino

    br eakfast f ood

    to welcome

    back old

    members as

    well as

    introduce

    our selves to

    new ones. Our

    second GBM

    consisted of playing Fil ip in o jeopardy

    as well as the whi sper challenge.

    Dur ing our thi r d GBM, we in tr oduced

    Fil ip ino folk lor e and pain ted the faces

    of the losing team dur ing that w eek?s

    Penny War s. Our four th GBM was an

    excit ing one because i t w as the AKA

    reveal w here general member s wer e

    put in a second famil y her e at MSU by

    getting an Ate/Kuya/Ading. Our last

    GBM was in collabor ation w ith the

    Asian Paci fi c Amer ican Student

    Organi zation (APASO) w here it was

    there was a White Elephant gif t

    exchange. It was an amazing semester

    w ith tons of smi les, laughs, and good

    times. We hope to see you again in the

    This semester, PASS

    welcomed our n ew

    member s w ith our

    year ly tr aditi on of dr ink ing bubble tea

    at Bubble Island as our fi r st social of

    the year. We spent hour s just dr in ki ng

    bubble tea, hanging out , playin g board

    games and gett ing to know one

    another. There was a gr eat tur nout

    and people seemed to enjoy bubble tea

    and their fi r st social w ith the

    organization th is year. This inspi r ed

    our need for more sim il ar socials,

    whi ch led to the Cider Mi ll social. PASS

    took a small group to Uncle John?s

    Cider Mil l in Saint Johns, Michigan and

    in tr oduced some new and old

    members to good ol?Michigan apple

    cider and donuts. From tr actor tour s to

    the beauti fu l w eather by the orchard,

    it was defini tely a fun fi lled, r elaxing

    social w ith m any photogr aphic

    oppor tuni ties. Lastly, the AKA progr am

    was once again a huge success. We

    tr ied a blanket r eveal thi s year where

    the ate/kuya would be on one side and

    their new ading(s) would be on the

    other side. When the blanket dropped

    your new famil y was made It was

    followed by a fami ly di nner at Charl ie

    Kang?s and w ith the newest addi ti ons

    of ates,

    kuyas,

    and

    adings,

    our

    Pamilya

    continues

    to grow.

    from

    socials,

    PASS held a totaly of f ive successful

    General Body M eeti ngs th is semester,

    and we are very excited for the spr in g

    meetings to come. If you have

    Thus far, in January we held our fi r st k ick off

    GBM of the semester. I t was ver y successful

    as we had a recap of the history of the

    Phi li ppi nes in the last twenty-fi ve years, PASS

    history, and a matching game contr ibu ting to

    the facts we lear ned. Our next GBM w il l be

    February 4th at 7pm in the Vincent Chin

    room in the basement of Holden Hall ,

    "Mahali n ang sar il i mo.? Valenti ne?s Day is

    just around t he corner, and typically w e

    think about spending time wi th a special

    someone. But this holi day season PASS wants

    to remind you to love yourself .Come learn

    about not only Pil ip ino AMERICAN hi story,

    but about fi nding your i denti ty. Embr ace

    your roots, li ve in the moment, and love

    FASA over the Rice Bowl in the annual day

    long tour nament. Sadly, thi s year we lost the

    r ice bowl and it has been given to the

    Wolveri nes, but f ear not , there?s always next

    year
