PARTS OF THE MICROSCOPE
1. EYEPIECE - the part of the microscope that you look through - contains a lens that has a magnification power of 10x
2. ARM - supports the upper portion of microscope - is used to carry the microscope
3. STAGE CLIPS - hold a slide in place on the stage
4. COARSE ADJUSTMENT - the large knob that will focus the image when you are using the low power 5. FINE ADJUSTMENT - the small knob that will focus the image when you are using the high power

6. BASE- supports the entire microscope - also is used to carry the microscope
7. LIGHT SOURCE- sometimes a mirror and sometimes a built in light - directs the light through the opening in the stage, through the sample, and up through the body tube so you can see the object
8. DIAPHRAGM - increases or decreases the amount of light entering through the stage so you can see the object more clearly 9. STAGE- supports the slide which holds the object being viewed 10. HIGH POWER OBJECTIVE - lens that has the highest magnification; the microscope you will be using has a high power of 40x

11. LOW POWER OBJECTIVES - lenses that have the lowest magnification; the microscopes you will be using have a low power of 4x and 10x
12. REVOLVING NOSEPIECE - holds the low and high power objectives and can be rotated to change magnification
13. BODY TUBE - maintains the proper distance between the eyepiece and the objective lens; allows light to pass upward to your eye
