WEEK 9 TERM 2 Commencing Monday 24th June 2019
Welcome to Week 9 of a rapidly evaporating term. We have a massive ten days of learning at Parkview remaining, this with a huge number of events and experiences for our entire community to engage in. Before we look forward it is timely to reflect on what was a wonderful Riverina Dance Festival hosted at the Griffith Regional Theatre last Friday. Our Senior Dance Ensemble under the guidance of Mrs Julie Axtill produced some outstanding performances as part of a wonderful exhibition of the performing arts from public schools from across the Riverina. Our children performed a piece entitled ‘Water’ and have received fantastic feedback for the execution of their choreography as well as their costumes. Congratulations is extended to everyone involved and thanks is offered to the large number of community members who travelled to Griffith to support our children. With such a big two weeks ahead before we wrap up the term, I encourage everyone to familiarise themselves with the significant amount of new content in today’s newsletter to ensure you are prepared for the range of opportunities your children will be immersed in. Please consider the following as you plan your week: Premier’s Debating Challenge The Premier’s Debating Challenge season will commence on Wednesday when Parkview’s two teams travel to Leeton PS to take on Darlington Point PS and Leeton PS in the opening rounds of the PDC. Particpants get one hour to prepare their debates after receiving the topics, with preparations well advanced after children engaged in a debating workshop held at Parkview earlier this term. We will have a full wrap of the results next week in the newsletter. Term 2 Reward Day The Term 2 Reward Day for all students in Kindergarten-Year 6 will be hosted next Wednesday, 3rd July. All children will enjoy the matinee performance of the Leeton High School musical ‘Back to the 80s’. The cost of the Reward Day is $2 which should be paid as cash to your child’s classroom teacher (on-line payment is not an option for this excursion). We are looking forward to a wonderful reward day recognising the tremendous efforts of our students throughout the term. Tut Roadshow The Tut Roadshow excursion being hosted on Thursday, 4th July is now full. We thank the parents who have indicated they would like their children to be involved with this opportunity for their prompt reply. Semester 1 Reports and PLP Conferences Semester 1 Reports for all students will be distributed next Wednesday, 3rd July. All parents and carers will be invited to engage in Term 3 Personalised Learning Plan Conferences at which you will be invited in to ask any questions about your child’s report and also set learning goals for the next ten weeks of learning. Invitations to secure a conference time will be distributed in the coming days. The following is an outline of the scheduled days for each teacher:

Students are currently engaging in a 6 week program at LHS to prepare them for the up-coming transition to secondary education. This is the penultimate week of the transition program.
NAIDOC Week Celebrations NAIDOC Week is fast approaching with the annual celebration being
hosted from July 7-14 this year with the theme of ‘VOICE, TREATY. TRUTH’. This year’s theme reminds us all that the Indigenous voice of this country is over 65,000 plus years old. It’s that Indigenous voice that includes know-how, practices, skills and innovations - found in a wide variety of contexts, such as agricultural, scientific, technical, ecological and medicinal fields, as well as biodiversity-related knowledge. They are words connecting us to country, an understanding of country and of a people who are the oldest continuing culture on the planet. The theme also sits neatly with 2019 being celebrated as the United Nations International Year of Indigenous Languages. Voice. Treaty. Truth. were three key elements to the reforms set out in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. These reforms represent the unified position of First Nations Australians. For our community there a three events of note for people to consider: The Leeton Shire Council NAIDOC Week Flag Raising Ceremony on Wednesday, 3rd July at the LSC Chambers. We will be represented by our student leaders at this event. On Friday, 5th July we will host our annual K-6 NAIDOC Assembly at school from 2.10pm. This will be linked to our regular weekly assembly with our students leading a recognition of NAIDOC Week. On the first Thursday (July 11) of the School Holidays the Leeton Local Aboriginal Land Council will host its annual NAIDOC Celebrations in Gossamer Park from 11.00am-2pm. Our Wiradjuri Dance Group will perform at this event while a number of activities will be hosted during the day. It is a family friendly event and we encourage everyone to come along and enjoy a wonderful event. Parkview PS Athletics Carnival Parkview’s annual Athletics Carnival will be held on Monday, 1st July and Tuesday, 2nd July. Full details of the carnival can be found in Talking Sport. All carnivals can’t be a success without the assistance of community members. If you are able to assist on either or both days please fill out the assistance form and return to the school by Thursday this week so roles can be distributed on Friday prior to the commencement of the carnival next week.
Term 3 Resumption As we approach the end of what has been a vibrant Term 2 at Parkview PS, it is timely to remind the community of the recommencement date of learning for Term 3. The School Administration Office will be open for enrolments and enquiries on Monday, 22nd July from 9am-12.30pm and 1.30pm-3.10pm. School resumes for all students on Tuesday, 23rd July with our usual K-6 Assembly in the Hall from 9am. More details will be shared in our social media streams across the holidays. Uniform Shop The Uniform Shop will continue its normal opening times of Monday 9am – 10am and Thursday 2.10pm – 3.10pm. If you require access to the Uniform Shop outside of these times please contact the school to organise a mutually convenient time to access your uniform needs. Please note that the Uniform Shop will close at 3.10pm on Thursdays as our coordinator has other commitments after this time. If you are looking to use the Uniform Shop on a Thursday please consider getting to school a little before 3.10pm to ensure you transaction can be completed prior to closing time. Your assistance with this matter is appreciated. Woolworths Earn and Learn
The Woolworths Earn and Learn reward program for schools is back for 2019. Parents and extended family are asked to collect stickers for our school. This can be done by sticking them on a card and placing them in the Parkview box at Woolworths or by sending them into school for us to manage.
Stickers will be in stores between 1st May and 25th June 2019.
The more stickers we have, the more points we can exchange for resources. In the past we have benefitted by receiving literacy, numeracy and sport resources as well as an outdoor table setting. Tell your family and friends from far and wide. Happy collecting!
