“THE CHOSEN” The Intriguing TV Series

Season Three of The Chosen is about to debut. The beauty of this TV series is the way it takes the things we know about the life of Jesus and his followers, and attempts to flesh them out—all with reverence, respect and a touch of humor. The 12 Apostles and disciples—both men and women—are given true depth of character, and are portrayed with storylines that make us imagine them as people like ourselves encountering the Savior. Check it out!

Father Antonio Almonte is away on a well-deserved vacation and will return to Holy Trinity next Sunday. We are very grateful to the following priests for filling in for him: Bishop Gerald Walsh (July 25th and August 1st) and Fr. D’Angelo Jimenez (August 8th and 15th). Gracias!

Solemnity of the Assumption

TODAY, Catholics around the world will celebrate the Assumption of Jesus’ mother into heaven. Seventy-one years ago, on Nov. 1st, Pope Pius XIII, issued his Apostolic Constitution, Munificen-tissimus Deus informing us of this infallible dogma of Faith:

[WE,] THE CHURCH, believe: “… the Immaculate Virgin Mary, preserved free from all stain of Original sin, when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things, so that she might be more fully conformed to her Son, the Lord of Lords and Conqueror of Sin and Death.” The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin is a singular participation in her Son’s Resurrection and an anticipation of the resurrection of other Christians: Catechism of the Catholic Church, 966

The members of the organization Desfile Mariano de New York, Inc. and affiliated associations, Dominican Sunday, Marian Ministry, and Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta Award continue to fail to comply with the policies and procedures of the Archdiocese of New York and are distributing information inaccurately, suggesting that they are affiliated with the Archdiocese of New York. They are not. Members of these organizations have been actively present at the parishes and/or Catholic institutions. Accordingly, the organization is not permitted to use the name, trademark, parishes, clergy, religious, and hierarchy of the archdiocese to advertise or announce any activity or ministry. Effec-tive immediately, any and all parish activities purport-edly associated with Desfile Mariano de Nueva York, Inc. and/or its associations are hereby suspended. * * * * * * * * Lines to be Taken to Heart I dreamt death came to me one night, and heaven’s gates flew open wide. With kindly grace St. Peter came and ushered me inside. There to my astonishment were friends I had known on earth. Some I had labeled as unfit and some of little worth. Indignant words flew to my lips: Words I could not set free, for every face showed stunned surprise – No one expected me. * * * * * * * *
