FACULTY PROFILES 2020 WELCOME Susan Fournier is the Allen Questrom Professor and Dean of Questrom School of Business. Susan joined the faculty in 2005 as an associate professor of Marketing and dean’s research fellow. In the ensuing years, she advanced through the faculty ranks and was named Questrom Professor in Management in 2013. She has been an influential member of the community in her varied roles as an educator, researcher, and administrator. As Questrom’s first academic dean in over 40 years, Susan has the benefit of an inside perspective. She brings a wealth of personal experience in academia with over 24 years in the undergraduate, MBA, and executive classrooms of Harvard Business School, Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, and Questrom. She is a celebrated professor who designed and delivered one of Questrom’s Top 10 MBA electives. She recently served as senior associate dean of Faculty & Research, and was a prior faculty director of the Questrom MBA and Doctoral programs. Susan is an award-winning researcher with an in-depth knowledge of the research and publication enterprises, what it takes to produce “research that matters,” how to bring that knowledge into the classroom, and what it takes to translate academic research for the most significant impact on practice—facets critical to understand in the pursuit of creating value for the world. Susan is also the first woman dean at Questrom, marking a significant moment in our history. She is “looking forward to a time when this descriptor is not considered a unique attribute.” Of equal importance, Susan is a first-generation college student. This status gives her meaningful insight as Questrom continues to focus on diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the School’s life. SUSAN FOURNIER Frédéric Brunel is associate dean for the undergraduate program and associate professor of Marketing. Frédéric is a consumer researcher dedicated to informing two main domains: consumer relationships and product design. His research strives for theoretical and substantive contributions and focuses on concepts of direct relevance to academia and practice. These include, for example, consumption communities on- and off-line, word-of-mouth dynamics and customer relations management, aesthetic response styles, and skill sets. In order to inform these domains, Frédéric is committed to developing a deep and contextualized understanding of the social-psychological and cultural factors that can guide and moderate consumers’ responses in these marketing applications. Thus, his scholarly work resides at the intersection of social-psychology and cultural studies and focuses comprehensively on culture, group/community, and personality/gender levels of analyses. Frédéric has published in journals such as Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Advertising Research, Business Strategy Review, Journal of Marketing Communications, Marketing Theory, Journal of Creative Management, and Psychology and Marketing. His research has also appeared in book chapters, managerial articles, and in a series of articles in conference proceedings. Frédéric has presented his work in numerous venues and conferences. He has been a reviewer for all of the major journals and conferences in his field of specialization, a track chair, and a member of the program committees for several conferences. Frédéric’s work is used by some of the largest corporations and he is regularly quoted and interviewed in a wide array of print, radio, TV, and electronic media outlets. At Boston University, Frédéric has taught at all levels: undergraduate, MBA, doctoral, and executive programs. His teaching emphasizes the interdependence and connections between marketing and other business functions. He has been a leader in the design and implementation of integrated cross-functional curricula at the undergraduate and MBA levels. Frédéric has extensive international teaching experience, including Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Over the years, his commitment to higher education has been recognized through several research, teaching, and service awards.
