By Aline D. Wolf

In this pivotal book, Aline Wolf redirects the attention of teach-ers to the fundamental purpose of Maria Montessori’s work—to bring about a more peaceful world by nurturing the spirit of the child. What is the meaning of the word “spirit”? How is nurturing the spirit different from teaching a specific religion? How can we nur-ture the spirit in non-sectarian classrooms? How can teachers, themselves, become more spiritually aware? How can we explain spiritual nurturing to parents? Aline Wolf explores these questions in depth and shares many practical suggestions from Montessori teachers. Topics include: cultivating stillness, nourishing awe and wonder, cosmic education, care of the earth, children’s inner peace and love, peace in the classroom community, spirituality and the arts, and ‘What about God?’. This book is a staple of many Montessori training courses, and a springboard for discussion at parent meetings and teacher in-service days. #097 Illustrated by Joe Servello 195 pages (paperback) Price $22.00

Montessori Insightsfor parents of young childrenBy Aline Wolf

Montessori education is most effective when there is consistency between the child’s two primary environments—the home and the classroom. In this book, Aline Wolf educates parents on how to use the Montessori perspective in their daily interactions with children at home, so that their little ones are not confused by two sets of standards or conflicting expectations for acceptable behavior. Filled with practical ideas, examples and photographs, this book brings to life Montessori’s guidelines for more peace-ful and effective parenting and eases children’s transition to a Montessori classroom.

The Purpose of Montessori Education

Dr. Maria Montessori believed t hat n o human being i s educated by another person. She must d o it herself or i t will never be done. A truly educated individual continues l earning l ong a fter the hours and years shespends i n the classroom because she i s motivated from within b y a natural curiosity and love for knowledge. Dr. Montessori felt, therefore, that the goalof early childhood education should not be to fill the child with facts from apre-selected course of studies,b ut rather to cultivate her own natural desireto learn.

In t he M ontessori classroom this objective is approached in two ways:first,b y allowing each child to experience the excitement of learning by herown choice rather than b y being forced; and second,b y helping her t o perfect a ll her natural tools for l earning,s o that her ability will be at a maximum in future l earning s ituations. The Montessori m aterials h ave thisdual long-range purpose in addition to their immediate purpose of giving spe-cific information to the child.

World of the Child

Makes a Great Gift!

Andy and His Daddy

By Aline D. Wolf

A harried father finds himself in the ‘world of the child’ where he experiences the frustrations of a tod-dler navigating his way through an oversized and fast-paced world. This storybook for adults reminds grown-ups to examine everyday items and activities through the eyes of children and gain a fresh understanding of the challenges they face on a daily basis.

By Michael and D’Neil Duffy

Unique! No other book in English brings to light the real meaning of the often bewildering heading, “Cos-mic Education.” What does it mean? How is it implemented as the overall plan for the Montessori Elementary curriculum? Instead of starting with European or American history, Michael and D’Neil Duffy begin, as Montessori did, with stories of the Universe. They build on Montessori’s quotation, “Let us give the child a vision of the whole universe...for all things are connected to form one whole unity.” As the chapters proceed through the Solar System, Planet Earth, Life, Human Beings and Civilizations, this curriculum demonstrates to children the ultimate unity of all living things. Children of the Universe brings these topics to the elementary level with exciting work and research projects for children. Ex-perienced Montessori teachers, the authors are now teacher-trainers. Used in many Elementary training courses.

Color Clues for Vowel SoundsBy Aline D. Wolf

The vowels in English are the most difficult sounds to hear, pro-nounce, read and spell. These unique color-coded word lists give the new or struggling reader specific clues to the vowel sounds in hundreds of commonly used words. This coding is done by print-ing the letter or letters representing the vowel sound in a par-ticular color and printing the other letters of the word in black. Each color is deliberately chosen so the name of the color con-tains the sound which that particular color represents, no matter how the word is spelled. For example, red is used for the short sound of “e” as in net, said and bread and green is used for long “e” as in bean, piece and ski. 16 laminated cards fit easily in chil-dren’s hands and are stored in a durable, vinyl pocket folder. Complete instruc-tions included.
