• 23 supported private academic institutions

• Founded 1992• 4.1 million titles in the

23 libraries

What is PALShare?

• Patron initiated direct borrowing between PALNI libraries

• Uses OCLC WorldShare Management Services (WMS) group circulation system and WorldCat Local / Discovery

• PALNI is first large consortium to use WMS for group circulation

How PALShare works

Background: 2013-14

• PALNI migrated to WMS (live May 2014)• PALNI Directors established policy

baseline for sharing– All libraries must share circulating books and

media and share patron records– One circulation policy: 60 day loan for books,

14 day loan for media

• Diversity: circ/ILL & size

• Met in person & online

Testing

• Hours of testing by Admin Team, multiple scenarios, regional meetings

• Worked with our OCLC implementation manager, Cynthia Wilson

• Reported a lot of issues to OCLC– Fixes for some really major bugs were

installed– Waiting for other fixes / design improvements

Training

• New process: group holds and the WMS pull list

• Numerous training sessions to accommodate needs of frontline staff and allow for questions, Dec-Jan 2013-14

• Assistance with policy configurations (1:1 and group)

Live to real patrons!

• End of January 2014• 7 libraries using request button in

WorldCat Local or Discovery• All libraries using pull list and lending• “Soft launch” - not actively marketing yet
