Pictured are some young kids of the town who thanked the Skate Park Committee for their new town skate park in the pageant. NEW YEAR FIREWORKS What a great job to have the pyrotechnics display organised by the Development Group on New Years Eve. Congratulations also to the Lions Club for the night mar- ket. Both were a great success. FORESHORE REDEVELOPMENT Council is proceeding with all the preliminary work so that we can apply to the state government to access a start up grant of 20% of the project costs under what is called the State Local Government Infrastructure Partnership. In getting the grant ready we have had to go into a lot of detail. An early artist impression is attached. Note this will be subject to much change as the next step is to have a more detailed design done by a firm of design architects. This will look at integration with the town, the harbour and the caravan park. LUCKY BAY SHACK OWNERS AGM Remember that the AGM is on at the hall on 18th January. Sausage sizzle and drinks have been organised prior with the meeting set for 7:30pm. If you have an interest in Lucky Bay please come along. PORT GIBBON The sewer extension has been complete and the contractor will now commence laying a new 50mm water line which will go along Port Gibbon road. The Port Gib- bon Association has contributed $25,000 towards a new playground which is ex- pected to be built in March.

CONGRATULATIONS to Alexis Williams on winning Young Citizen of the Year, Lexi ‘s

commitment to the towns sporting clubs and school has made her a very worthy winner of this award.

CONGRATULATIONS to Skate Park Opening (Fundraising Committee) on winning Community

Event of the Year. The Skate Park Committee held the Skate Park Opening on 28th of August 2016 where they had a very successful day. The committee have put in endless hours over many years to achieve

this amazing goal.

Awards will be presented by our Australia Day Ambassador

(David Malinda) following the Australia Day Breakfast at 7:30am at the Cowell Lions Park.

We look forward to seeing you all there to award the Citizens of the year

and enjoy a delicious breakfast.

TOURISM COMMITTEE Thanks to all those people that have nominated to be on the Tourism Committee. We have assembled a great team to advance tourism in the town. ROAD WORKS The road crews are concentrating on patching and fixing blow outs on all major freight routes & school bus routes getting the roads ready for the return to school. Once school goes back we will recommence Beach road.

HARBOUR VIEW BOATRAMP The Harbour View Boat ramp upgrade is now complete and ready for use. Thank you to Turners Ready Mixed Concrete for the fantastic job. BOAT RAMP PERMITS REMINDER Is your boat ramp permit ready for renewal? Please double check your permits are up to date as fines may apply for expired permits and failure to display your permits correctly. DECEMBER RAINFALL 64.5ml DEVELOPMENT - DECEMBER APPROVALS Shed, lean to, carport, shed $12,900.00 Laurie Collins will next be visiting Cowell 25th January 2017 & 15th February 2017. LONG TERM FINANCIAL PLAN Council are in the process of updating its Long Term Financial Plan to include the CWMS, Cowell Cottages and the proposed Foreshore Redevelopment. The draft document is now available for comment under council’s Public Consultation Policy. The document is available on Council’s website or can be viewed at the Council Of-fice. Written submissions addressed to the Chief Executive Officer or emailed to [email protected] must be received by no later than Friday 17th February 2017 at 12.00 pm. LIBRARY NEWS School Holiday Programs School Holiday program is in full swing. We have enjoyed a recycled craft morning and a paper craft afternoon. There are a few more activities coming soon, including: Tuesday 17th at 10am-11am, - Sci-ence Fun in the Library. Join us for some cool science experiments and facts. All ages welcome. Par-ent/ Carer supervision required for children under 12. Wednesday 18th at 1pm - 3pm - The Angry Birds Movie in the Library. The movie is rated PG and $4 entry includes a bag of popcorn and a fruit box. Bring a bean bag & pillow and get comfortable. Parent/ Carer supervision required for children under 12. Thank you to Catherine Shelton & Ruth Tonkin for volunteering their time and assisting with our activities these school holidays. Book Chat & Cuppa Group This year we would like to encourage avid readers to join our Book Chat & Cuppa Group, which in-cludes our monthly Book Club. At our get together’s we not only discuss the books nominated for the month, but also any other titles we have read as well as new recommendations for personal reading from the Library. If your interested contact the Library for more information. Book Chat & Cuppa will meet for their first meeting of 2017 on February 9th @ 11am in the Library. EP Creative Writers' Group The EP Creative Writers' Group will start their monthly get togethers soon. New members most cer-tainly welcome. Next meeting will be Wednesday 1st February @ 5pm in the Library and the theme is "Other Worlds". Family History Workshop The time is getting closer now to our Family History Workshop which is set to be held next month in the Library. Come along and learn the basics of where to start, and how to guide yourself around the website Ancestry. If your interested, please contact the Library for more details. Storytime Mark it in your calendars - Storytime will be starting again on Wednesday 1st February from 9.20am. Join us for songs, stories and craft and introduce your children/ grandchildren to the many benefits of early literacy. Coffee & Tea available. Why don't you pop in for a free coffee or tea?
