Pettis June 5,1925 - January 31,2000 By Dr. Eric R. Tepper, Podiatrist THE FOOT EXAM To correctly diagnose and treat a foot problem, the podiatrist will ask if the patient is experiencing pain and swelling and if these symptoms limit normal activities. The feet will be examined for any skin changes or signs of injury. The podiatrist feels for displaced bones or swollen soft tissue, and tests for strength, reflexes, and sensations. To determine range of motion, the podiatrist may see how far and how smoothly the foot's joints move. Depending on the patient's symptoms, hip and toe joints may also be tested. To learn if the heel swings too much, the doctor will watch the patient walk in bare feet. The soles of your shoes may be checked for any unusual patterns of wear. Foot problems come from many sources - physical stress, improper shoes, muscular imbalances, disease, neglect, trauma, etc. If your feet are cramping your lifestyle, professional care is in order. We know that good foot health can enhance your daily existence and improve your quality of life. For compassionate foot care for everyone in your family, we welcome your call at 234-5571, at Rice Medical Center. We practice state of the art podiatry, geared to prevention as well as treatment. patient is experiencing pain and swelling and if these symptoms limit normal activities.

P.S. If the heel swings excessively, the foot may flatten too much, a potential cause of foot problems.
